Creative Announces Extigy

For $149.99 you get a device you hook up to your USB port and will give you 24-bit 96kHz multi-channel audio playback and a 100dB signal-to-noise ratio. The Extigy will ship this month.

Word of warning, they're fine for playback, but they suck for multitrack recording (And the Extigy will too) due to the limited bandwidth of USB (12 Mbps if you're EXTREMELY lucky). But anyway it's good to have another product in the market and the price seems right.
BTW if you do want to do multitrack recording and don't want to get a PCI based system then look at the firewire based units like the MOTU 828 (Which is used by Depeche Mode to record live shows and in the studio)
Firewire will eventually prevail, but the price point of USB audio is good for beginners and bargain hunters as long as you can live with the limitations
