MoH SP Demo Pulled
by Steve Gibson, Jan 02, 2002 1:22pm PSTAs has been the tradition a demo that was packaged along with a magazine CD made it out on to the net and was distributed through websites. We've done this a few times with demos through a few different publishers over the years, however it looks like EA is not one of those publishers. By request of EA:
I'm the EA Product Manager for MOHAA and although we're happy to have your support in getting our Single Player Demo out to PC gamers, we have an exclusive distribution agreement with Computer Gaming World and it's European equivalents. So I have to ask you to remove your links or posting of this file until January 8th.Generally the thinking has been from my discussions with publishers in the past is that the websites and magazines arent really in competition, and they just kind of turned the other way when this stuff happens. However things change. Out of respect for EA's wishes I kindly request that nobody post any further links to the demo here. It will be re-released in just a few days, and hopefully in a smaller package.

1. if no one buys the magazine, which I don't even though I'm a hardcore gamer (more hardcore than 90% of you lamo people), then no one will ever see the demo.
2. How does it hurt EA if it's distroed via the net? it doesn't, it hurts CGW. But it doesn't really hurt them at all. Who the fuck reads a mag for gaming news, it's so last week. I want my news now, not 3 weeks after print and distro.
3. Why would it matter if there was a breech of this agreement, that should never have been made? If the results help the developer, they are stupid for enforcing an agreement that can only hurt them.
4. It's not illegal to have links on your site that point to a file that has no license agreement that requires the exhange of monies. damn stupid people.
I was gonna buy MOH cause it r0x0rs, but not now.
CGW screw you.
EA screw you too.

clueless idiots in our big corporate giant wish to have demo only on the CD. so bow down and comply or an army of lawyers will sue you till you close down.
one more reason to ignore EA games.
ever since they fucked over American McGees Alice developers I have no respect for them. just another corporate giant hating its customers.
