Apple Wants to Blow You.. Away

CNet is reporting about the updates to Apple.com (thanks {Venger}), which seem to indicate Apple will announce something real big at the upcoming Macworld Expo in San Francisco. Everyone's pretty much guessing what they will announce at this point, though a flat-paneled successor to the iMac is what most people are betting on.

  • Ok, my predictions:
    - LCD iMac (duh)
    - G5 will come *soon*
    - DDR memory in new systems
    - Plan to phase out 550MHz Powerbook, make 667MHz model the standard and introduce a 733 (maybe 800?)
    - Superdrive will pushed a lot more (DVD burning solution)
    - New digital convergence device that works as Airport base station, storage hub (centralized storage), and mp3 playing station.
    - Expanded iDisk service (internet services for Apple owners including web space, email, and some storage)

As for demos, I'm not sure if Doom 3 will be pimped. I'm also not sure if GF4 being the first on the Powermac systems will happen. My guess is internet storage, combined with the new hub thingy, will be one main point, and video editing will be the other. A DDR-based memory bus will be pimped as really fast for video editing, and will allow systems to pull ahead in any memory intensive benchmark (hi photoshop).

I think I'll link back to this in five days to show how wrong I am :)
