Top Games of 2002
by Maarten Goldstein, Jan 01, 2002 8:01am PSTSince people like JCal, Evil Avatar and the guys at Ferrago.co.uk have put up their most anticipated list for games coming in 2002, I figured I would ask you all what you are looking forward to as well. I don't even think I have 10 games that I'm looking forward to, but here are a few games that I do look forward to in 2002 in no particulary order (well except for the first :) )
- Duke Nukem Forever. Though not certain for 2002, and I'm not expecting it until late this year, I have a pretty good feeling about it. - Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - Age of Mythology - Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast - Freedom ForceWhat do you want in 2002.

They can't manage a Dairy Queen let alone a game project: you'd think Romero was now working for them or something. They'll never top their initial Duke, and they know it. They're living off luxury spending and they don't do any work - something akin to Warren Marshall and Epic. They fritter their time away on forums and have yet to produce ONE RELIABLE ITEM from the game. Remember several months ago, PC Gamer gave out the old Duke Nukem, the "Game that started it all" as an appetite-whetter for DNF? Yeah, right. Sounds like Romero's huge, Eidos-funded Daikatana release party: Daikatana wasn't released until a year later.
Miller and Broussard can only talk, they can't follow through, and they're proving it. DNF will bomb, big time. You can't have a game with so many high expectations (Daikatana) and beat the expectations. They know it, and they're about finished.

DNF
That's about it - all I really anticipate greatly - SOF 2 = interesting oh oh oh! nolf2 - yeah nolf 2 ASAP!
1. DirectX8.1 engine (pixel/vertex shaded,DOT3/environment bump mapped, specular lighted engine) translated -> Maya based , CG animated, near movie quality animations (similar to the Diablo2 Expansion/RTCW intro animations)
2. 40+ levels (gaining access to more advanced levels greatly depends on flags set in your current level--some of which will prevent you from progressing). To include some "massive" environments (2 disc highly probable)
3. Secrets, hidden/bonus areas
4. Awesome, immersive cut scenes
5. A few central "goals" to accomplish the game (for example, ensuring you send the demons back to where they came from)
6. Will require at minimum: 1GHz, 1GB DDR,GF4, Dolby 5.1 system
7. Expansion pack in 6 months

Chris Roberts... where are you?!

Personally, I'm looking forward to Halo PC (hopefully it becomes like Tribes), Quake4 (if it's out in 2002), Neverwinter Nights, SoF2 and Jedi Knight 2 (can you tell I'm a Raven Fanboy?)...
JEDI KNIGHT2 AND DOOM3! AND OTHER GAMES THAT DON'T SUCK LIKE IN THE OLD DAYS (dont get me wrong I'm all for new and exciting ideas).
I think I'm kind of pushing it with the doom3...but you gotta shoot for the moon!
1. Zelda
2. Mario Sunshine
3. UFO: Freedom Ridge
4. Jedi Knight 2
5. new SotN-styled Castlevania game (not sure if it's targeted for this year)
6. Halo (PC)
7. GTA3 (PC)
UFO: Freedom Ridge, for those of you who don't know, will (hopefully) rock your balls off. It used to be under development as Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge before the developer folded. They were resurrected by a new publisher, and now it's UFO: Freedom Ridge. It's from the people who did X-COM, and looks like a true sequal in terms of gameplay. I loved XCOM and XCOM2. (none of the others, though). I played the hell out of the first couple, and I'm stoked about UFO:FR.
www.maximumdreamland.com has a lot of old info on it, screenshots etc.
The news of the new publishers is here:

#353, that would be sweet about #2 and #7. About #2, I am thinking that there very well could be 3 discs with the game instead of 2discs. I wouldn't doubt it if the game does come with 2 discs. #7, just like the old Quake days eh? Expansion packs are always welcomed. About #4, let's hope so. We'll have to wait and see. We have to give the Carmack sometime to make Doom3 a great game.
-Morrowind
-Outcast 2
-Deus Ex 2
-Sea Dogs 2
-Solider of Fortune 2
-Might and Magic IX
Hmmmm, nothing but sequals, that can't be good.

it just occured to me that every game on there except for halo is a sequel. does that just mean i'm only excited things i have an established relationship with or is that an indication of the industry's tendency to make sequels?
