Here's a bunch of the games that we had those wonderful GONE GOLD style threads for. If anyone sees any outstanding games that came out this year that I forgot to mention, oops?

  • I dunno, I thought it was a pretty good year for pc gaming.

    this year I bought:
black & white (why, god, why?)
tribes 2 (still underrated by most IMO)
max payne (great game the first time around, sadly not much replay value)
serious sam (a merely good instead of great game, but it was 20 bucks.)
operation flashpoint (pretty damn good, I wish the vehicle controls weren't so wacky though)
il-2 sturmovik (excellent, anyone who is remotely interested in flight sims or the eastern front in WWII should give the demo a try.)
    MSFS 2k2 (pretty good)
DAOC (great at first, but I am getting sick of it and I think I chose the wrong class to play.)
empire earth (great, but like, the single player element is practically non-existant)
ghost recon (pretty cool, I've yet to really try any multi though... and of course the AI is somewhat brain dead like any red storm game.)
tropico (great game, I had to buy another copy for my dad)

(and a bunch of bargain games that came out in years past)

sure, there were no blow me away games, but overall I'd say it was a pretty good year. I'd say it was a arguably better year for PC gaming than console gaming, as GTA 3 was the only real game that rose up to its hype (and overcame it, even) Perhaps halo, though I haven't played much of that... and maybe rogue leader, if you're a SW nut.

  • I thought it was a pretty good year...better than last year IMHO (I guess last year was good if you are a big time realism buff). AvP2 I enjoyed, and I'm really liking RTCW...SeriousSam was a hoot (lousy netcode killed it though). Red Faction was pretty cool I thought; and if your a realism person I guess OpFP was good (didn't like it personally, but I'm not a realism guy). I thought Tribes2 was nice, the bugs when it first came out hurt it a lot, along with its performance...but I didn't encounter too many bugs and found it to be one of the few games that actually does focus on REAL teamplay rather than sorta teamplay. The only other game to really leave me with the impression that it intentionally fosters some real teamplay is RTCW (note: I'm not a CS fan ;P). Overall it was not a bad year...there wasn't one individual game that blew everything away (as someone mentioned), but those games are usually a little overhyped (IMHO), or aren't really my style (I need to try DeusEx though...I keep meaning to pick it up and then forget...it's cheap so I think I will). Overall, my favorites this year were AvP2 and RTCW :).
