More Industry Growth
by Steve Gibson, Dec 19, 2001 6:59am PSTWe saw some good numbers the other day about the gaming industry as a whole growing by an impressive 19% in revenue, well here's some PC-centric figures to look at. 47 million people played PC games in October alone. The growth of PC gamers continues to rise, although the growth of general PC users is even bigger so it's kinda diluting things. Another interesting report from the Metrix guys is that half of the gamers out there are picking up a new console system and some info on getting those consoles online
the number of households owning a gaming console connected to the Internet will increase to 12.3 million by 2006 (up from 700,000 households in 2000), online PC games will continue to account for the lion's share of gaming subscription revenue. Jupiter projects that subscription revenues from online PC games will total 1.5 billion dollars by 2006, while subscription revenues from connected console gaming will only reach 250 million dollars in the same period.

And, by the way, those four games occupy the top four spots for number of people playing.
Y'know, just a little "read the actual story that was linked" FYI before people go off thinking the games industry is healthier, or more popular, than it really is.
