Kevin Cloud Interview
by Maarten Goldstein, Dec 18, 2001 5:20am PSTThere's a Kevin Cloud interview on PC Game Central where they talk with the id artist about the response to RTCW, what can we expect upgrade wise for the game, if there is going to be an expansion, what development was like with single and multiplayer being split between Gray Matter and Nerve along with a few other Wolfstein questions. Interview then moves on to DOOM and Quake 4, but not surprisingly there is nothing new there.

Also that you don't need any patches or updates, I get tired of patching 10 to 20 times. Personally I think that anyone that purchases and registers a game should get a free final upgrade CD from the developer if the software is updated, and only updated once.
I know that id has said that they probably won't be able to have hordes of monsters like the originals, due to the poly limitations and the lighting, but one can hope they find out how to make this happen.
As for the right balance of ammo, health, and armor, I really hope that they pull this off. I remember playin' certain levels of Doom or Doom II where you would have to make every bit of ammo, health, and armor count. That just made for some serious strategy to stay alive. It was always fun to try and lure a few of the monsters away to take them out a few at a time.
I also hope that they bring back the completion screen at the end of the levels, and the who fragged who screen for multiplayer like they had in the originals. I know this is supposed to be an all new game but there are certain elements from the originals that made the games interesting and they need to retain those things in the new version.
I kinda hope that id uses some of the game play styles from other games also, I know there are a lot of people here at the Shack that are anti RTCW, but I bought that game and it has some elements that are just to cool. Like the forest levels, where you have to sneak around and make every knife or sniper shot count, I never thought I would enjoy a game where hidding and thinkin' about how to take out an oppenent is the object of the game. I am still curious if it's at all possible to play thru most of the game, other than boss levels, with just a knife and sneaking around, and not setting off a single alarm.
Anyways I am anxious to finally be able to play Doom III. And if it means waiting til 2003 or 2004 to do so, so be it. I just hope it's the best damn gaming experience ever created, with a huge replay value.
And I really hope that they stick with having hidden secrets and easter eggs in most levels like there were in the original.
