Game Industry Growth
by Steve Gibson, Dec 17, 2001 3:20pm PSTNintendo put out another PR saying how well they are selling as they compete with Microsoft for releasing the most impressive sounding PR. They go over recent sales figures etc saying Smash Brothers has sold over a quarter million in just 9 days. But here is the stat that really grabbed me:
The video game industry overall is hotter than ever, with total 2001 retail revenues now on track to exceed $8 billion for the first time ever (+19% vs. 2000).19% growth in sales for the entire industry in just one year? Great googly moogly!

Any extremely notable titles?
Ghost Recon, RtCW(gag), Max Payne, Emperor: Battle For Dune, Dark Ages of Camelot, Civ3 (only notable title so far), anything else? i mean..... personally i think this growth is probably all due to half-life still, just more college kids jumping on the bandwagon and playing counter-strike. you can't honestly tell me that people everywhere were talking about max payne or rtcw.......
WTF!
