Don\'t they have several daily sites giving progress reports on DK? Not to mention, anything using licensed technology isn\'t neccesarily a \"mod\". Think Half-life was a mod? is Team Fortress 2? I think there\'s a fine line between the two.
Oh no, Lex the conspiracy theorist called me an idiot... damn the shame. I suppose as long as I don\'t have long hair I\'m safe from his real power hitter insults.
Anyway, this string is going away tonight, so honestly, no hard feelings, it\'s been a great discussion and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Heated debate is more fun than most FPS\'s I\'ve tried especially with such worthy adversaries. You guys all rock!
later guys, I\'ll see you all while I\'m hovering over your beds, hehe. I\'m glad you like my tag BTW ;)
What is Daikatana but a mod? A glorified add-on that is using core technology from someone else. At least *true* mod developers often show progress reports on their own sites. ION can\'t even do that right, and they\'re going to be making money on their product. If they spent less on haircare tips and spent more time updating, things might be different. You take a poll: which has more respect as a stand-alone product - Q3 or Daikatana? Answer it yourself if you dare!
I admire mod makers because for the most part, they care about the gamers. They care enough to keep up informed, updating their sites daily, with specific game development-related information. The only compensation mod makers will see is player feedback and possibly a ticket to the big time.
There are mod or tc developers that have proportionately more to show for their effort, resources, and manpower than Romero could hope to muster. The irritating part, besides you missing the point entirely, eepers - and that might be due to a genetic flaw, is that Romero will be collecting. Eidos should give some of these other mod makers a chance.
You see? I can call you eepers. That in my mind is synonomous with irritating spineless neanderthal. Eepers is a catchy tag.
Thanks!

Spending $28 million without making a dime so far? It\'s called starting a company you moron. What are people supposed to use to create said game, much less 3 of them, without spending money on it first? Maybe you\'re not aware of it, but A+ games aren\'t being made in garages now. Imagine, the impudence of spending money marketing a game before it\'s released? What assholes.
\"we are the ones who must reach into our thin wallets and extract 3 $20 bills to pay for said game.\" Who the hell says you have to? Don\'t! Jesus Christ, do you even understand how capitalism works? You\'re so fuckin weak on arguments you keep falling back on his hair to bitch about!?! I don\'t see him babbling about his hair on a regular basis, contradictive idiots like yourself are the only people keeping that shit in the public. Get over the fact that he has long fuckin hair! Somebody please tell me what the flying fuck that has to do in any way the quality of Daikatana!?!
\"some of their potential cutomers are still pissed off about the past\" You dont say? As if someday people with your conspiracy theories on a company are going to wake up one day and think \"Man, ION really has their shit together, I sure was a fuckin idiot back then\". I seriously doubt any company could care in the slightest how \"Lex Lethal\" (boy that is a catchy tag) is whining about being personally selected to recieve his copy of DK later than the other children. Especially after he was forced by Romero to buy it from his thin little wallet.
Hell, 2 million couldn\'t buy half the publicity idiots like \"Lex Lethal\" whip up for a product. No publicity is bad publicity it\'s been said. So, keep flapping you\'re ass lips, the more you bitch the more ION smiles.
Oh, nice shortcake comment BTW, that\'ll shut\'em up.
By the way, hitting the Anonymous button is a cop-out as far as I\'m concerned. Develop a catchy tag, tell us who you are and be done with it, instead of protecting your \'fragile\' reputation from your gaming peers. If you are infact a person that knows something improtant, we want to be able to quote you directly for God\'s sake. It\'s annoying to quote anon@whothefuckamitalkingto.net and be taken seriously.
As for my *outrageous* claim that ION has spent millions on Daikatana, I ask you to consider this for a f\'ing moment: how much does coverage from major gaming magazines across the nation and overseas, and the cost to get someone to notice them so they could land a major news camera crew so they could do an expose\' on ION Storm, not to mention the incidentals that go along with promoting and building purchasing hype cost? Sure, I said ION spent millions, and 2 mil sounds about right. If you question any of this dig back through months of sCary\'s old news and refer back to a news announcement from Dallas talking about how ION had spent $28 million (including a portion of which I bet went towards advertising) and haden\'t earned a dime yet. Why do I go over this again? Because some drek-head out there thinks I\'m pulling obscure facts from my lower intestines. Go dig up some fossils if you doubt me.
Maybe ION has turned the corner and is headed for better days. Great. Unfortunately, Mr. Killcreek and any other *inside* people from ION Storm inherited the legacy. John Q. Romero ran his lips and burned a lot of bridges by promising a product that we still don\'t have months and months after delay after delay. He burned bridges that someone will have to mend if ION wants to reap the rewards for their efforts. ION can choose to \"look to the future\", but some of their potential cutomers are still pissed off about the past. And by concidence, we are the ones who must reach into our thin wallets and extract 3 $20 bills to pay for said game.
Someone else (#65, sorry they posted annon.) mentioned that the Q2 engine, or the inhouse enhanced offspring is a dated platform that will be swallowed whole by *todays* technology. I couldn\'t agree more. What sort of digital wizardry could a rag-tag last-minute team of developers throw together that will even compete in today\'s Q3 market? Have you seen those screenshots? Look at those sad models! It looks like someone stuck a ruler in the scarecrow\'s ass. I mean ask yourself this question: who is Daikatana\'s target customer? Sorry Romero, but everyone you hoped to nab is already planning on spending their lunch money on Quake3: Arena. If you had one fps game to buy this holiday season, which one would you get? I thought so.
Where is Romero any way? Why haven\'t we heard form him publicly? Shouldn\'t he be the one doing some face-time promoting HIS product if it\'s finally nearing completion? Where is the mighty romero now? I know - he\'s doing his hair and eating strawberry shortkake.
Thanks!
-Lex
Don\'t like Romero? DON\'T buy the fucking game.
As far as delays goes, did they spend any of your fucking money to hype the game? Didn\'t fucking think so. Last time I heard, your tax dollars didn\'t go to Daikatana, do any of you even care where your tax dollars go? oh, I forgot you\'re bunch of 14yr. olds that don\'t even pay any taxes but earn tax credit for your crackhead parents.
Daikatana will gets it\'s fair judgement when it comes out, will I buy it or not. And that\'s my bottom line.
:)
That is all.
heh.
We will be shipping the game for Christmas, and we are quite excited about it. DK doesnÂ’t even look like the same game anymore. Things have really moved along in the last ten months and everything is coming together even better than expected.
I know what Ion is like now. I will not pretend to understand everything that lead to anyone leaving nearly a year ago. And frankly, I just donÂ’t care. ItÂ’s the past, and I would much rather look to the future or focus on the present.
How about instead of slamming a company you are no longer involved with, you come here and tell us how your game is going rock? At least then this would be a useful discussion. We are all gamers, and thatÂ’s what ought to matter here: The Games.
You are right, there are real people behind this whole thing. I hope you will consider that before trying to further damage a group of people – most of whom were *not* a part of the past here -- working their asses of to finish a game and make it fun.
Its all about fun. Its time to have some.
Mike, you guys need to get the KISS screenshots up on their site. I\'ve been looking all day for some.
oh yeah...no comment about all that politic-type shit about the game, the company or its release.
all i want to know is why the skins look so detailed but the polycount in those models is lower than romeros iq. goddamn those hard edges look like shit. that corpse things arms and chest lines look like soo much ass...like everything was drawn with a fuckin ruler. then its covered with a great looking skin. cmon now...weve got video cards nowadays with ghey names that do quintillions of full screen antialiased polygons per second, but that doesnt matter cause the model still looks gay. and jesus christ..http://www.daikatana.com/story/kyoto_japan/images/e1_04.jpg..can you say \"looks like ass\"...look at the goddamn gunbarrel/arm on that mech thing....5 big stupid flat polygon shapes do not make a good looking gun, let alone an arm.
sure the skins/textures look great..and the game might be incredibly fun to play...but that shit is just disgusting to look at with those low polys.
If ION releases a proper demo I can\'t see why people can\'t have the same experience with Daikatana as with UT. A lot of people didn\'t think UT was worth crap but after playing the demo many of those actually like the game. This *could* happen with Daikatana to you know... 8)
