by Maarten Goldstein, Nov 27, 2001 6:26am PSTNVidia and some company called PNY Tech have announced a trade-in promotion for those people who still own a 3dfx Voodoo card. Depending on what card you have you can get $10-30 (not exactly gonna make anyone rich) cash back bonus PNY Verto MX 400, GeForce2 Ti or GeForce3 Ti 500 videocard.

Cripes I was THIS close to selling the V2 to a guy for 25 billz anyway... If i get 30 towards a hi-end PNY card then I am making out MB...? Agh rebate-ism is so weird tho, I hate the runaround involved...
Shizz, I wonder what they are going to do with all those V1-2-3-4-5 cards? ( I would NOT trade in a V4 or V5 myself no way Jose) Maybe they are building a Burning Man style monument that they can ignite and chant satanic phrases around or something.

Why? Remember all those articles on how to modify the GeForce to 'fix' the low quality filter components on the card so that in higher resolutions the 2D quality graphics is not ghosting or displaying fuzzy text? Well Leadtek of all companies, and I have to give mad props for Abrasion for pointing this out to me, uses high-quality filter components and so the poor 2D quality is now fix! This is like the only card to get if you have a 19" or bigger moniter. No other Nvidia card has this!. Don't believe me? Then read this: http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/winfastti500/
So this 'deal' that PNY is making isn't worth shit, imho. :/

But seriously, it's a poor marketing strategy, as it will only aggravate people by underlining how devalued and outmoded ultra-expensive hardware quickly becomes. Smart consumers will say, "If I plunk down $200 for this card, it too is going to be worth squat by next summer." And that kind of reasoning makes it easier to put off a purchase. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Even then, it's $30 off a $300 card.. If you have a Voodoo3 or 5, you can get
at least that much on Ebay, if not more.
