NOLF2 Screenshots
by Maarten Goldstein, Nov 12, 2001 4:53am PSTLithtech was kind enough to send us the first four screenshots from The Operative 2, aka No One Lives Forever 2. This is a very early look with what Monolith is coming up with, and what Lithtech is coming up with as the engine used is the all new LithTech Jupiter System. The Jupiter System is specifically designed to use the new features in state of the art hardware. Update - 11am: Lithtech's Paige Young sends along 4 new screenshots, which have a higher resolution than the original shots.
For more about the new Lithtech engine you can check out interviews on HomeLAN Fed and IanStorm.

I tried a little of the avp2 single player demo, did nothing for me...
will eagerly await nolf2!!
here's hoping there is as much or more unique content in the game... the guard conversations and the text of the intelligence items and stuff... they really added a lot of context and colour to the game.

GG Monolith, I can't wait for NOLF 2, easily my most anticipated title of next year.

I couldn't find anything immersive in that game, it was constantly reminding me it's just trying to make fun out of everything.
Imagine you're playing Doom and then instead of the cyberdemon there comes a fat opera singer.
Yuck.

I swear to christ these people pick this up from web boards such as the shack "oh if it has ONE less featue than the Q3 engine it must be 1996 code"
for JEBUS SAKES.
Nolf looks in MY opinion (and SEVERAL friends) EXCELLENT - the graphics are not made up just by "an engine"
there's modelling / texture work / level design / lighting and I can assure you people - those with a PHAT system (GF2 pro or higher, 64mb to boot) and 1ghz + cpu's this game fucking owns for graphics
Sure Q3 can do better - but it's still mostly red / grey / brown / vomit.
FAKK2 and ST Voyager is the Q3 engine looking good, but none the less NOLF for it's time (over 12 months now) still looks nothing short of _EXCELLENT_ in high detail.
You could tell me it's the doom 1 engine, I wouldn't actually be silly enough (unlike most morons around it seems) to say "it looks dated gfx wise, fun game though" - if it looks great (as in really great) then hey jesus, who cares what engine it is, it MUST BE GREAT.
I also hold this PRECISE argument for Daikatana - it may not be the best game, but in SOME PARTS specifically the first level - the texture work - models - lighting and fog DEFINATELY didn't look Q2 to me AT ALL.
I swear if lith said "ok here's nolf our Q3 engine game" everyone would love it besides the mouse and net code
, or AT least admit it looks good rather than shrug it off as "it looks bad because it's lith"

i dont know what kind of crack everyone was smoking when they praised the first game
is it just me... or were all those 'briefings' and cutsceens just TOO fucking long i just wanted to hop into the game and kill a few peeps, run around and hide from people and use the gadjets ... which you didnt really need to use that often anwyays =~(
that and a few of the missions were just down right fucking annoying

Ever heard of "work in progress"?
Actually, probably never heard of "work", its what you do after high school..
Is NOLF2 coming out tomorrow? Nope, its a ways away and things are looking good
for such an early stage, doy!
Go back to praising TF2 and PC Halo :)

Nolf2 will be eaten by Doom3, Unreal2, and DNF, and the bean counters know it so there is no way they will spend nearly as much time or buy as much talent as last time.
What most fanboys don't grasp is that it's not having the "best" technology that matters. It's having the tech that developers will buy. PC developer decisions in this area are going to be increasingly guided by the flat market. The PC market is kaput: hardware manufacturers can't move their stuff even at all-time low prices.
People have to buy fancy hardware in sufficient numbers for games requiring that hardware to sell well. Since they're not doing so, and until they demonstrate again that they'll do so, lower-cost solutions like Lithtech that are tailored to existing tech (rather than to future tech, as Doom 3 is geared) are going to look more and more appealing to developers, and that's what's going to shape our gaming experience.

these shots are an obvious huge improvement in visual splendor and whatnot.

NOT IMPRESSIVE !!!
but probably going to be kind sad next to unreal 2 and doom3 stuff graphics wise. although the AVP2 terrain was quite impressive ! almost looked like the unreal 2 terrain! almost!

The shots look... interesting. The low res doesn't help and it's blatantly early stuff, but the polycount looks up there, nice texturing and the lighting looks real nice to me too. But what do I know. ;)
I'm still not convinced
but everything is too bright here : http://www.shacknews.com/screens.x/nolf2//1/thumbs/111201_lithjupiter_4.jpg
