Early Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Nov 08, 2001 5:02pm PSTWell we managed to survive the move without a horrible amount of down time, yay. This poor dual 600 machine is crying like a little bitch though with the load it's under. Should be at the most about a week of this stuff. Apologies to the modem guys as we currently arent running that compression code that we've been enjoying for so long. It will be back shortly, dont worry. Stuff!
- Yahoo doesnt have to block Nazi content in France now. - Woohoo! Hot women, drugs, and money! Ok the drugs part sucks. - Ashcroft sure upset a lot of assisted suicide advocates with this one. Thanks Mick - A one molecule transistor. - Exxon gets the Valdez damaged order changed.. Sigh. - Iran and the internet. Those two mix? - US prepares for Cyberwar.Lastly, I've decided to move forward with taking that sponsors hardware as mentioned a few days ago. We'll have a total of 5 Shack machines running all kinds of fun stuff down the road. Whooda thunkit? Once everything is in place (we have a target date that is within this year) I'll share all the specs with you guys for the curious.

so you can be sure you'll have to redesign at least part of the product halfway through development, possibly several times. of course this adds to dev time so you might and up redesigning again just because of the initial redesign(s). at some point you're never going to catch up. i think several developers are close to that point already.
at best you end up with a product that took 2 to 3 times as long to create as some other contemporary products, while being somewhat better than those other products. but it's not likely to last 2 to 3 times as long nor make 2 to 3 times as much profit.
