CPL Approves AVP2 Demo

In a strange turn of events, CPL has announced in association with Monolith and Fox Interactive, Aliens vs Predator2 has become a CPL "approved" game and will be featured in an upcoming tournament giving away a custom car. This was suspected earlier given a concept image that surfaced at HardOCP a little while back but now it's official.

SierraT, Fox InteractiveT and the Cyberathlete Professional LeagueÂ® (CPL) are excited to announce that Aliens vs. PredatorT 2 has been approved as an "Official Tournament Game of the CPL". To kick off this partnership, the Aliens vs. Predator 2 tournament, also sponsored by PNY TechnologiesÂ®, will be included in a 30-city tournament at CPL qualifying centers, a worldwide online tournament with the Cyberathlete Amateur LeagueT and the upcoming CPL World Championship Event. The Aliens vs. Predator 2 finals tournament will have gamers from across the nation competing for the grand prize of a high-end customized 2002 Ford Focus ZX3 courtesy of the American Products Company located in Corona, CA.

i highly doupt this is going to work, regarding the early state the game is in and the fact that there is no possibility to record demos at all. remember what a big advantage osp was for q3 professional gaming ? now keep in mind that even the avp2 multiplayer DEMO had to be patched. iÂ´m sure this game rocks in singleplayer, but hey, it has not even a coop mode, not to speak of class based tourney. hmmm... heavy marine against alien ? doh ...

Not to knock AVP2's multiplayer, cause it's too early to judge, but this just goes to show the CPL is more about $$ than anything else. I will find it very humorous if AVP2 is suck, but some retards still play 12 hours a day so they can win a car.

I think it is going to be the same version that is released now. The PR does not mention anything other than the Demo that is out now.

Actually, not the first time. A couple of tourneys were just Q3Test (more or less still a beta), and while it took CS some time to be accepted, Munoz did say that he already approved of NewDoom, even before we've heard anything about a multiplayer component.

  It really depends on the players. Sometimes, aliens dominate like crazy, and other times it's predators : drazz

What I find surprising is that this is the first time I recall CPL approving a game before it's even been made publically available.

I agree; its stability hasn't been proven yet. I remember that the CPL took a while before approving Q3, and there had already been plenty of CS betas passed when they approved that.
