WindowsXP Launch Day
by Steve Gibson, Oct 25, 2001 7:42am PDTToday is the big WindowsXP launch day from Microsoft. Here's the official PR announcing it etc. You should be able to find copies of the new OS from Microsoft on shelves all over the place, super exciting! A pretty strong recommendation for upgrading from Windows 98 to XP, although Windows2000 users can just take your sweet time as there doesnt appear to be a heck of a lot of reason to upgrade just yet. There are reviews all over the place, just load up your typical tech websites ZD , CNET etc. Most share the same opinion we've been seeing for a while, the registration stuff is annoying and Microsoft requires that you name your firstborn child after them along with purchase. Seems reasonable!

What does xp offer over the Win2k? WAY WAY faster boot times. Way way faster app launch times. And still rock hard stable. And in fact its stabler then 2000. and has more compatibility with alot hardware then 2k.

I wonder what Microsoft is going to do with their next consumer OS? I can only imagine it being much worse that what they're doing with XP.

Yeah I'm closed minded, but for good reasons I think. Someone suggest reasons why it's worth the money, the .net/Passport hassle, the product activation, the time and the trouble to upgrade, and I will consider them.
Also, are there any PC manufacturers, outside Mom and Pop places, that will sell a prebuilt PC that is not configured with XP? It is possible to buy one?

Does the media player that comes with have a FILE/SAVE AS or a RIGHT-CLICK/SAVE AS???
Im doubting it. If it doesn't then that alone is reason to not get the fucking thing.
Win98se and WMP 6.4 are the sweet spots ladies and gents.

In other words, I'm one happy customer, as long as XP stays an NT based OS, I'm a happy customer. I should really try spending more of my life in the Microsoft bubble more often. Life in the bubble is generally a lot more reliable and worthwhile than it used to be. Just as long as you don't actually look outside the bubble and see MS crushing every other tech company in sight, it's a good time.
