Corporate Game Sites?
by Steve Gibson, Sep 20, 1999 8:32am PDTAn AVault article which was pointed out to me by a couple of friends raises the question of corporate ownership of websites representing a nonbias view but in fact being owned behind the scenes as a pr machine for companies in question. I guess I should go on record just like Blue did and state that Shugashack is 100% owned by me, and much like him buyout offers to come from time to time but I don't plan on selling any time soon. :)

Ah, you don\'t have to anyway...
Shugashack rules by the way, VE might be funny, but SS is totally uncensored and people just kinda \"let it all out\" here... I like that, no other site has this.
Damn... I was just imagining the press release...

\"...FPS Games Oriented Site files for IPO
The world just received confirmation from Steve sCary Gibson, that the FPS
oriented site Shugashack.com has just finished all tramits and filed for IPO
to be conducted the same day 3dfx finally ships the Voodoo4 (Originally codenamed napalm,
then Viper, then Misled and finally Late-to-Market) and Microsoft ships Windows 2005
(which was originally set to ship on late 1999 as Windows2K)...
...When contacted Mr. Gibson said I\'m very happy about the IPO, the money we get will
help us get some sheep for Huntsman, some air freshner for Pat Hook and maybe my soul
back after selling it for some danish pr0n magazines and a Slim Jim
All gamers will be invited to participate in the IPO said one gamer after receiving an e-mail
from sCary itself, but I\'m suspicious about the E*Trade requirement that I send them a full body
nude picture in order to met eligibility criteria set by sCary itself...
We\'ll keep you posted...\"

I imagine I would be pretty effective to say employ a few people to hop around from message board to message board hyping a product, while bashing another.
In many ways this form of \"advertising\" would be much more effective than the convential forms of advertising, (posting banners, ads, etc.)
In fact I would be very surprised if the major game industry player, (you know who they are) have not allready considered this, if they do not have such programs in existance!.
/me phears!
I\'m sure Epic made you a good offer, though :)
