Red Faction Update

The Red Faction site has word of a new patch for the game, currently available through the Update section of the game launch program. The 1.10 patch fixes various bugs, all of which are listed on the site. Thanks Blues News.

Well, I'm a little sorry to say this, but I uninstalled Red Faction. It was pretty good, but they only fixed half the bugs that exist in the game, and the game itself simply takes up too much space. Inside I'm still laughing to see Volition still using uncompressed pack files and 4-bit ADPCM WAV sound effects and music, while all the new titles are using compressed pack files and MP3 sound effects and music.

Too big, too little, too late. Still a good game, though.

This game is a mixed bag for me. The single player was fun but some cheesy acting and plot. And while I find the multiplayer okay, the netcode really really sucks.

Fixed console closing problem. Only need to hit "~" once now.

Too bad they didn't fix the console "problem" where the line wouldn't clear if you entered an unrecognized command. Having to hold down the Backspace key all the time gets annoying.

Too bad this apparently doesn't fix the fact that people are allowed to use trainers in multiplayer. This in turn gives unimited ammo and no reload. The crying and pleading to Volition has apparently fallen on deaf ears though as this has been a problem since the game came out.
