A recent update from Verant (Thanks Sean) mentions a 2003 expected release date: In addition, Dave Georgeson made a messageboard post (Thanks VE) which gives a little more on the matter (Well, not much)
Update: PlanetSide is little behind that of Star Wars Galaxies. McDaniel expects the game to be ready for release in Q1 2003. D. Georgeson: The information in that thread is in no way official. The game will take as long to make as it takes. That's very grey, but it's the only answer I'm prepared to give at this time.So uh... yeah I guess that means we wont bee seeing Planetside for a while. Bummer because it's purty and I was looking forward to finding out what is so $10/month special about it.

So far this is 2 confirmed very large products at the same time, add in constant maintenance for EQ, which seems to be broken what with the Sleeper script being what it is.
Toss in one Evercrack sequel and you're looking at Verant actually releasing 1 game every year and a half.
well at least we know that our computers will probably be able to run it at a good fps by that time...
That and the fact that it's a bitch to get a good game going with smart people.
