Go to anand, add up the ones that has intel first, then add up the ones with amd first. They are not exactly even but are close enough.

Factor in stability and its even. Factor in that these are all BENCHMARKS and does it matter. I say we compile a kernel!

Newsflash for people complaining about AMD's choice of naming:

Did you know that the Pentium III was the same architecture as the Pentium II? They should have just called it the Pentium II DX going by their old naming standards (486 days). And the "Coppermine" had no copper in it at all? OMG, how could they have pulled off such a deception? Boycott INTEL!

AMD has better price performance. Don't think anyone can honestly argue otherwise. AMD just needs to run a real ad campaign. With those blue fuckers running around on tv and their little jingle its not matter that Intel still runs the show.

Apparently Intel sold all of its stake in CNET over 2 years ago. I don't have a link, but you can see during early 1999 that CNET articles about Intel stopped mentioning that Intel was an investor. So....

ANYONE who builds a machine simply around it's benchmark scores is an idiot anyway. I just go for the right balance of price/speed, and just try to stay as high end as I can. I spare myself the stupidity that is a Intel/AMD flamewar because of an extra 2 or 3 points of FPS in a benchmark.

Hmm... Lets see here... A 1.53Ghz Athlon (Palomino), performs faster than the 2Ghz P4 and is about 1/3 of the price? I wonder who wins here? BTW, I have a 600Mhz Athlon (Original Core) with an FIC SD11 and I have no stability problems at all.

that articles is such BS

it goes to say the AMD is better ofr aps but the pentium is better for 3d games ebcause it leads in q3. if they had looked at the benchmarks they would have known that AMD leads in every 3d game benchmark (that i saw anyway) except q3. it was leading ins seriuos sam, in max payne, in the demo version of wolfenstein even!

As far as stability goes...

I've got an AMD 1.2GHz TBird on an ASUS A7M266 running Win98. Some of you would expect this thing to go down more than a whitehouse intern, but the only time it's not in Windows is if I've got it off because I'm moving the computer itself around, or if there's been a power outage. It's great.

This is a marketing thing for AMD since they cannot compete with Intel (renaming= smoke and mirrors). Simple, period done deal. and more than that, LAME. I hate when 'rrespectable companies fall to this level.

My next pc from the looks of it so far will probabily be AMD. Top of the line Athlon XP. The price/performance from AMD is way better than Intel's. With a nice price, you can get it with a Radeon 8500, heheh. Performance at mainstream price.

why didnt anand do any benchmarks at a res over 640*480??? seems pretty stupid, as every other benchmarking test i have seen on his page an others usually runs from 640 up to 1600*1200. i havent played games at 640 since i got my voodoo2's years ago. thanks for the worthless benches

This is pretty retarded - even most people that largely just play games on their systems know better than to take q3 benchmarks too seriously (unless that's ALL they play) but for cnet to actually compare a very marginal win in q3 scores to AMD's higher scores in virtually everything else and call it a draw...

If you look at the anandtech review, the Q3 score of the athlon 1800 is right between the P4 1.9GHz and 2GHz. Just goes to show that the 1800 rating is quite conservative when it outperforms its intel counterpart even in the benchmark it's supposedly least suited for.

How does that report comply at all with the benchmarks from Anandtech and HardOCP yesterday? Didn't see any actual tests performed by CNET there...just a couple of sites I'd never heard of with their benchmarks.
