CS: Condition Zero Interview

by Maarten Goldstein, Sep 24, 2001 6:30am PDT

HomeLan Fed has posted an interview with Randy Pitchford from over at Gearbox talking about Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. Condition Zero will offer single player content as well as multiplayer enhancements. JCal asks about the existance of a storyline in CZ, the new missions we can expect, AI, additional weapons, new characters, gameplay enhancements, Gooseman's involvement and more. Here's a bit on what we can expect on the multiplayer side of things

HomeLAN - Will there be any enhancements in Condition's Zero's multiplayer online mode and will those enhancements make their way to the mod version of CS?
Randy Pitchford - The new characters have about a 75% increase in polygonal detail and those will be available for multiplayer as a High Definition Pack for Counter-Strike. There are also some technology improvements like alpha blending with models, level of detail for performance and a new materials based feedback system that will be added to the game as well. Additionally, all of the new weapons and game play features will be available to Counter-Strike should server operators wish to take advantage of them. ...

#38, I just hope you aren't a Valve employee making an impeccable ass out of yourself.
Seems like you only post in Valve-related threads...and you're OH so defensive. You, and
a few others who seem to only rear their heads in such threads seem to have a personal
    investment in such issues.

The fact is, you're either too close to Valve or too naive to understand why people would
have complaints levelled at them, and trust me, there is a large portion of the community
that dislikes them -- and most of them only see things from a very limited perspective so
their complaints aren't as varied as they could be if they saw the big picture.

Don't get it blurred in your head, Valve's current success in the years after Half-Life
itself's popularity has significantly decreased isn't a product of their own hard work, but
that of the CS team. They only took over CS recently, but its success all along has been
Half-Life's life blood for the last year or more. There is no denying that.

All they have to show for their own work is Half-Life and some 2 year old footage of TF2. I
won't count TFC because it's yet another mod team they assimilated into their fold.
I already know their new engine tech is incredibly impressive, and that's only because
they've assimilated some of the biggest talent in the industry since Half-Life hit it big.

I don't give a flying fuck about how good their next game will be. It won't erase history
and all the shit they've pulled. (http://www.shacknews.com/funk.y?id=2024926)I have respect
for many of them as individual people doing what they love, but never for the people calling
the shots, especially those whose actions affected me the most personally.
