  • With word of how nVidia's timing of these drivers being so close to the announcement of ATI's new card...

    I wonder if nVidia had previously planned to release the Geforce3 with drivers that weren't performing to full capacity. If you release a tech product that is so stupidly fast there is no realistic use to having all that speed, then why not slow it down until a later date when you can increase its performance via a software update, so it can then compete with newer products that may have been faster than your product originally, but now is left in the shadows by a 6month old product.

    Is this all marketing? Well... To be honest, I don't believe nVidia is a competant-enough company to do such a thing. When marketing learns to do shit like this, we may see more consumer benefits for brand-specific products. In this day and age of technology, to pull this off, it would take quite a lot of effort, research and marketing. If your product was lightyears in advance of everyone elses, then such an aggressive marketing campaign would mean more sales for less capitol.
