US Terrorism Updates

Jack here. I've realized this story's gotten pretty big, so I'm going to update it with the newest information to lower confusion.

United Airlines Flight 175 hit the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York city at 8:40EST. At 9am, American Flight 11 hit the south tower. American Flight 77 then crashed into the Pentagon at 9:45am. Between 10:00 and 10:30, United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Somerset County, PA. It was apparently hijacked and heading for Camp David, as a stewerdess was able to reach a phone. Also between 10 and 10:30, both of the World Trade Center towers collapsed.

All airports and government buildings have been shut down. Most of Washington DC and Manhattan have been or are being evacuated. Major League baseball games have suspended play, and airports are all closed until noon tomorrow. All transcontinental flights have been diverted and the borders to the US from Mexico and Canada are shut or have heightened security. The Navy has been deployed along the east coast for extra air support.

Casualty numbers are estimated at above 15,000, and President Bush is at an undisclosed bunker. Here is the text of President Bush's speech (not much here), ripped from Canada.com of all places:

Today we've had a national tragedy. Two airplanes have crashed into the World Trade Center in an apparent terrorist attack on our country. I have spoken to the vice president, to the governor of New York, to the director of the FBI, and I've ordered that the full resources of the federal government go to help the victims and their families and to conduct a full-scale investigation to hunt down and to find those folks who committed this act.

Terrorism against our nation will not stand.

And now if you join me in a moment of silence.

May God bless the victims, their families and America. Thank you very much.
Interesting choice of words, as I remember his father's quote of "This aggression will not stand" when referring to Saddam Hussein.

It is noteworthy that this is the anniversary of the Camp David peace summit that was supposed to be President Clinton's swan song and ended up in failure. Also, enough with the Notradamus quote please. It's been quoted dozens of times in the comments already.

Commenters - Tasteless comments will be nuked and those making the comments will be banned. No fucking around here, a lot of people lost their lives today, and a lot of them friends and family to the thousands of people that read this page. Be mindful of that.

Please chill out on reloading!
The Shack server is taking quite a bit of load hosting these comments. Please refrain from reloading the comments page more than once every couple of minutes. That time will help everybody to say their piece and read other peoples' stories. And please don't just ignore this thinking that it's "only" you. Thank you!!

I hope George Bush takes some names and kicks some ass. There is going to be hell to pay for this New Day of Infamy.
