Spider-Man Demo

ok, I give, how the hell can you swing? Using a sidewinder game pad. It saw to swing I need to jump in mid air and press button 9. Well I've tried that over and over and just fall to my death. Also the volume levels of the game are wacked. Oh you can adjust them all you want but the game has only one real volume level. AMAZINGLY FREAKING LOUD.

What a let-down... The control system is ARSE. It's a 3D game but the only movement controls are up/down/left/right. No rotate or turn. Where the camera points is largely up to the game so to look around you have to kinda move in the direction you want to look, which means you can't see where you're going, which is very bad when you're on top of buildings or just near a baddie.

This is a real shame because the game looks cool to me, although the combat seems very basic and repetitive -- from the movies I was hoping for a combination of 3D arcade adventure and fighting game but the fighting consists of getting next to your opponent and randomly pressing punch and kick (I didn't notice any real difference between the two moves) until they're knocked out.

Also, when swinging from one building to another, WHAT exactly is his web sticking to? He fires it straight into the air and swings on it... Is he swinging off the moon or does this city have some kind of high-up roof?

I thought it was cute how the city is flooded with gas in the cinematic as an excuse for the fogging and out-of-boundsness of the lower levels. :-) Reminds me of the "it's snowing a lot so there will be no pedestrians on the streets" thing in Max Payne and a similar, although slightly more subtle, thing in Deux Ex (which is the bestest game ever!). I find it better if games just don't bring up the subject rather than provide some obviously contrived reason for their limitations, but it's nice that they've thought about and tried to make the game worlds consistent / realistic, I suppose. :)

Game isn't half bad. The graphics are pretty crisp in 1280x1024x32. The only problem that lies within a console port like this is a gamepad is all but required. Oh, the demo had a show stopping bug for me also where you fight Scorpian. It shows a cutscene of you flying in the window and then it switch to an in-game scene of you falling into an abyss. Rinse and repeat. Couldn't ever get it to go any further.

The control scheme really throws me off, but maybe it's cause I don't play many console games (note - this was using a gamepad)

I love it when large files are hosted on only three servers, none of which can handle the load. (Hell, it's taking them long enough just to reply to the login / resume requests.)

Sigh.

At least it's not on File 'We Suck A Lot Of Ass' Planet.

spider man is the gayest action hero, for multiple reasons

I think it's pretty cool, but beware that you need a gamepad to play this game unless you can use your keyboard like a gamepad. The only thing this game uses a mouse for is movement through the menus.

This game looked pretty cool while they were testing it. The animations and one liners anre cool. It would be cool if they had MaxPayne type graphics with this kind of game.

For the DC spiderman was pretty cool but way to easy even on higher settings
