Looks like Microsoft is going to attempt to lead the way for the whole taking consoles online. The Sega Dreamcast does this a bit but not at quite the scope that Microsoft is attempting to do. You can read the article over at MSNBC (Thanks Stomped). The competition is like.. not very big though considering GameCube hasnt even announced any plans to support online play (Or made any indication) and PS2 owners need to buy the online adapter separately.

We are drawing up a scheme to convince people that Xbox is the one, not PlayStation or GameCube, when playing online games, Ohura said in an interview with Reuters.

The rumor mills are saying that Microsoft is planning on building an "online network" for the console players, and given the hand MS has in the PC market it's not much of a stretch of imagination that they would work towards letting PC gamers interact with their console playing couterparts. Now lets all hope the X-Box turns out to be good... That $300 price tag is a little stiff.

What they need for the Xbox is a VGA adaptor that allows developers to incorporate optional higher resolutions for people who want to play on a monitor...tag on keyboard and mouse support for games and I'll buy the thing...

I'll wait till it's 200 bucks...and if it has kb/mouse support for FPSs at that point and some good games I can't get on my PC; then I might get one. Right now I'm more interested in getting a new mobo (chipset'll either be that new SiS one or the nForce) along with a new processor (probably a TBird 1.4Gig). Then I'll wait a little while and I'll get a GF4 or Radeon3 or something. I'll probably also get some DDR sometime here.

Umm ok.. let me see... more powerful than the competition.. cool games.. plays DVDs... runs games better than 95% of $2k computers on the market..

I would say its worth it without a doubt.

I am definitely going for the X-box. The online ability, combined with the GF3-like processor, and the HDD, make the x-box a sweet machine. Considering the price tag is only $100 more than the Nintendo Game Cube, and you get to play DVDs, the price tag is very much worth it.

As far as content goes, with MS behind it, you know other developers will follow.
