Sorting A Mess
by Steve Gibson, Sep 04, 2001 2:34pm PDTJust a note for folks, the comment sorting options have gone live. You'll need to have cookies enabled to store your preferences and along with the preferences going live is the new options of sorting in ascending or descending order as well as having the option of having threads "juggled" or not. Juggling meaning that if someone responds to a particular thread it gets kicked to the top of the comments. I'm uploading and tweaking the rest of the templates but things should be fairly easy to understand. The news items now have a (options) link along side the comments link... I'll also be adding a drop menu to the actual comment views so you can quickly flip between modes for the people who like to do that. The filters have run in to a small snag that's gonna delay them until this evening. More details on those once they are live.

Ie, i've selected to see nuked posts. I'd still like to see a little nuked flag or symbol somewhere to know the status of what i'm looking at.
And is it safe to assume the thread starting posts controls the tone for the thread? By that I mean, if the thread starter is nuked, will the children have to be nuked also for them to be invisible to people who haven't chosen to see nuked posts? does that make sense?

I'm being picky I know, but it seems like a one-time thing, looks strange having it next to every story.
We can see nuked stuff? No more wondering what the hell got obliterated from the comments? Sweet!

The problem is that I access these sites at work sometimes and they monitor our usage. Getting that pop-up just adds to your page request total.
I found a cool utility to stop them at home, it's called Pop-Up Stopper and I got a link to it at Littlewhitedog. com. You can also get it at www.panicware.com. It doesn't stop the page request, but it does keep the window from opening.
