Got a few things related to Molyneaux, Black&White and all that stuff. Firstly in case you missed it Black&White2 was announced at ECTS. You can actually have a look at Black&White: Creature Isles here. In addition to that, here's some info on the Project Ego game which is being supervised by the supergamedesignermaster and developed by BigBlueBox. I've decided to include my own review of Black&White for you guys to go along with this info:

- Hey this is pretty cool! I like messing around with my pet and stuff [few hours pass by] - Um, this is tedious. [few weeks pass by] - Hrm.. I havent played this game since the first couple of days. Oh well [uninstalled]
It was pretty damn fun for a few hours though.

  • AFAIK a lot of people still have to find a crack for the game to get their legal, purchased copies of the game to run on Windows 2000. They've know about this problem for months and done nothing about it beyond say "we're working on it" on the official sites.

I played the game for a few hours and absolutely LOVED it. I then ran into a stupid bug and figured "fair enough, it's only just come out, I'll wait for the patch." And so I waited and waited and waited and by the time the patch came out I simply couldn't be bothered with the game anymore, especially after the insult of having to search for a crack to play a game I paid money for, sheesh! (They changed the copy protection slightly with the patch and this seems to be what's caused the Win2k issues.)

(Then I get abused by ignorant idiot fanboys saying that I'm a fool for running games on Win2k, despite the fact that some games actually run faster, all other games I've tried run perfectly and the OS itself is a lot more stable on my hardware. There's no goddamn excuse not to support Win2k in this day and age.)

Still, they have my money so what do they care? Well, they're probably not getting it again FWIW.

  • I didn't especially like B&W (nor will I purchase any add-ons for it), largely because the micromanagement was out of fucking control!

    * Every villager was the same caliber of idiot, and they had a limited ability to forage and hunt for themselves - without your direct assistance. How did these villagers survive before you arrived?

    * I'm sure there's a patch to fix it now, but the leash would disappear randomly, not by a gesture, and my creature would wander off, after I'd nailed his ass to a spot with piles of food. Locating that sneaky sonofabitch was a job unto itself. There should have been a way to instantly contact your creature and send him an instruction, without using the leash to bring him to you, then drag his lazy ass to his next assignment.

    * The villagers (the biggest single problem with the game) couldn't teach each other or manage each other. Having a town elder or village chief would have helped out a great deal. I would have traded in my creature for the ability to create a villager that could keep those idiots on track, even if it were just for a while.

    * The creature, a sad diversion, couldn't be picked up by hand.

The most entertaining time I had was placing a child villager at the worship site, setting the totem to it's lowest setting, and continuously healing and creating food to keep that poor bastard alive until he eventually grew old and died.

    Thanks!
