Spider Man Game

The folks at AVault managed to get their hands on a copy of the upcoming Spiderman game which will be fighting the stigma of being a license game by attempting to not suck. After browsing through the preview (Who really ever reads the whole thing?) A few things caught me as pretty interesting. Enough so that it'll at least be worth downloading the demo. Check it out:

The whole atmosphere is lighthearted and whimsical, never taking itself too seriously. Spider-Man occasionally blurts out cute remarks, just as he does in the cartoon series, to put everything in a comic perspective. Nothing seems too dark and sinister even when tension prevails. In the preview version I tested, you never are too scared or worried about everything turning out terribly wrong, for you generally can rest confident in the thought that the web slinger will prevail in the long run.
Cute remarks make my spidey sense tingle.

  • I finished the Dreamcast version of this yesterday.

This is a fun game. I wouldn't call it a great game or anything, but it kept me interested all the way through. Graphically it isn't great, the THPS2 engine is a bit dated looking by PC game standards so we have what looked like low poly counts all over the place. The textures were mostly uninspired as well, maybe they woulda been better if I was skating. heh :)

Still the gameplay is what matters and there is plenty of it here. I like Spidermans personality, and the cameo appearances of several Marvel franchise characters were very cool.

What I didn't like so much is how short the game is, I finished it in roughly 6 hours. There are lots of altnerates things to do once you're done though. You can go back through and collect comics or try to complete certain objectives to unlock more costumes for spidey.
