As expected, Blizzard has officially announced their Warcraft MMORPG World of Warcraft at ECTS. Here is the official press release. The Blizzard WoW site can be found here featuring screenshots, a feature list and more. A cinematic trailer can be downloaded here or here. Here are some screenshots:

Will players be able to travel to places they visited in the Warcraft RTS games? - Yes, World of Warcraft's different regions are based closely on the maps and areas from the Warcraft series. What is the camera perspective of the game? - The game supports 1st- and 3rd-person cameras. Players will be able to utilize the mouse wheel to choose the camera angle they prefer for their situation and switch between cameras on the fly. Will there be monthly fee to play the game? - Yes; however, we are still investigating our business model and have not yet determined what the fee will be.

Oddly enough, I'm not excited about this. RTCW, DNF, Warcraft 3 = excitment. A MMORPG + no phat pipe to play it on = nope.

Diablo 2 has consumed too much of my life for me to get involved in a MMORPG anyway.

I would pay a great amount of monies for a post-apocalyptic "Fallout-style" MMORPG. It would have to be very dynamic, sport nice graphics, and take care of the problems EQ, UO, and AO have. Oh man that game would be sweet.

Other than the occasional online romp in Q3 or CS, the only other mulitplayer game type I'd play would be co-op....I love co-op but no one likes to put it in their games these days...

MMORPGs are for people with way too much time on their hands...and money to burn for it.

i dont think blizzard will be very good at managing a game like this. in diablo2 half the skills are usually bugged in any given patch. they break a skill or 3 with every patch and it takes them several patches to find skills that are already broken. in a game like this that would really mess things up

I just watched the gameplay video. They mentioed that it will be just like Diablo where you can get in and play for 30mins and get out.

If they are going to do that then it sound like Diablo 3D set in the Warcraft universe. Ho hum.

If that's true, then I can't see them charging $10/month for it. How are they going to justify charging $10 a month for this when it's possibly a 3d version of Diablo and it's free?

When ID announces that Quest game as anything other then a large constant FPS world...I will not be interested in it. I don't like online RPGs...so not Id, Blizzard, Creoteam, or 3d Realms would make me buy a MMPOG or what ever that stupid acronym is ;)
