Counter-Strike 2 Blurb
by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 29, 2001 7:57am PDTThere's a tiny piece of information about Counter Strike 2 on PlanetCS.de. Gooseman shares this tidbit about weapons/scenarios.
I can't say much about CS2 .. All I can say is , everything is being done from scratch. There will be new guns but at the same time we'll be keeping some old ones. I'd say half new ones, and half old ones. We're also working on some new scenarios as well.Saw that on Stomped.

Can this be done ? Has this been done ? It'd breathe some life into HL running around with some meaty firepower, though I'd imagine importing the weapons would simply retain the old weapon's properties as far as damage, etc is concerned - although the look and sound of the CS models / weapons would be cool enough for me.

Going off the top of my head, for 5.56mm NATO assault rifles...
- IMI Galil (AK-type design, accurate, heavy, 35rd mag)
- IMI TAVOR (bullpup design, standard, compact, and mini sizes, optics)
- FAMAS (bullpup, this gun is [or was] in UT Tactical Ops)
- H&K G36 (standard ak/sg552/m4 layout, optics)
- Stoner M63 (standard layout, two lengths available)
- Ruger AC556 (standard layout, folding stock, 2 lengths, not in current production but often used in movies as a terrorist gun, was a favorite on the A-Team)
Modern militaries are basically choosing between the AK (still manufactured by a dozen companies) and its derivatives, variations on the M16/M4, and the G36. I predict the M4 and AK will stay.
Submachineguns:
- IMI Uzi (needs no introduction, 9mm and .45, 30rds)
- AUG 9mm (yes, the AUG is available in a 9mm conversion, not in wide use)
- M16/M4 9mm (same here, these have seen use by the DEA, ATF, etc. 30 or 32rd mags, easily suppressed)
- illegal TEC-9 conversion (boy would they get in trouble for that one, but it would be SO appropriate)
- PPsh-41 (the odd 7.62x25mm Tokarev, this was the Russian subgun from WW2, no longer in use but hot damn, a 71rd drum magazine would be so cool)
- Thompson SMG (yes, the Tommygun, .45, not in use to my knowledge)
There's not a lot of innovation/competition in the subgun market, the MP5 is pretty much in control. The MP5 and the P90 will probably stay, I hope the MAC-10 gets replaced by the Uzi.
Pistols:
They've pretty much used up all the exciting and popular pistols. Perhaps the full-blown H&K MK23 SOCOM will be put in with suppressor, flashlight, and laser. Realistically that would cost $3000, so they'll have to fudge a bit there ;) Maybe we'll finally see a revolver, I'd prefer a Taurus 608 (8-shot .357) to the freaking Glock. They might go crazy and put in one of the AR-15-style 5.56mm handguns (yes, handguns): high damage, high recoil, high capacity (they'd probably restrict it to 20rds), adequate accuracy, should be only semi-auto.
Sniper Rifles:
I'd expect to see the G3-SG1 replaced by the more current PSG-1, which is functionally identical but slightly cosmetically different. They may ditch the Scout for a weapon in actual use, such as the modified Remington 700 used by the Marines. If there are fully-integrated vehicles, expect the Barrett M82A1 .50-cal rifle to make an (expensive) appearance in an anti-equipment role. If CS2 included per-polygon hit reporting, expect to see practical usefulness of the AWP decrease as arm shots are added to the list of non-fatal hits.
Machineguns:
There will probably still be only one, so they might throw out the M249 just for freshness' sake. I'd just like to see its damage reduced to the same levels as the assault rifles (same caliber, same damage, god dammit) and its accuracy and rate-of-fire increased to more realistic levels (MG's are very accurate due to high weight and fire much faster than the Para does in CS). Perhaps we'll see a super-heavy , only semi-portable 7.62mm machinegun added.
Shotguns:
I doubt any changes. Hopefully they'll realize the pump shotty is woefully underused and make it a viable choice. Recommendations: make its spread curved instead of linear/conical: a load of 00 buckshot has only spread out to about 6 inches in diameter at 7 yards. Make it pump faster. Make it cheaper. Maybe not all of these ;) And for chrissakes, makes shotshells cheaper than ***$65 per 8***!!!! Shotshells cost $10 per 25!!!
Misc:
*sigh* I have the sinking feeling that a 40mm grenade launcher will make an appearance...
