GameCube Delay

by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 23, 2001 6:07am PDT

Cube.IGN is reporting that the introduction of the GameCube in the US has been delayed until November 18, almost 2 weeks later than the original November 5 release date. This info was found in Nintendo's Spaceworld Press Kit. The delay means early November is all for Microsoft, since the Xbox is supposed to be released on the 8th of November. First-party GameCube games launching along with system are Luigi's Mansion and Wave Race: Blue Storm, and Pikmin will follow a day later (third party titles, like LucasArts' Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader will also be available). Smash Brothers and Eternal Darkness will follow in December. 700,000 GameCube units will be available on launch day.

  • its funny.

Half of the people that visit this forum arent even old enough to really HATE MS. I mean what are the REAL reasons? Because its cool? Because everyone else does? Whos driving the bandwagon here?

When you arent huge, and rich and well known, you are the underdog. Everyone loves the Underdog and everyone loves to defend the Underdog...but once you are on top, you become a target.

    example:

Lets say you have a friend, who might be wealthy and pretty popular among friends. But he has a horrible drug problem...and you are very close to this person. You would more than likely be there for him. There as a good friend...there for advice or just company..to help him through his problem.

    Now...

Robert Downey Jr. does it..and OMG!! What a loser!

It sickens me, the amount of hypocrites using anonyminity to post their views and opinions which are laden with falicies.

The Gamecube rocks! Its is not a PC! Even though is has a hard drive, video processor, sound processor, ram etc, it is not a PC. All the games made for the Gamecube are rendered on big GIANT Gamecubes!!

    morons.

The PS2 is NOT a DVD player! It can play games! It is not a computer! So that means I can buy a PS2 controller, shove it in my Sony DVD player and I can play Grand Turismo?

What valid point does anyone have to hate MS? Because your pirated versions of WinME crash? Christ.

Why buy a PS2? I bought a Sony Digital camera a year back for about $500.00. Within 2 weeks of normal operation, it stopped fiunctioning. I tried to take it back to the retailer..nope, couldnt do it. After waiting on hold for over an hour, I am told by a recording to send the cameras to a Sony repair department. Sent. 7months later...7 months..I get it back...2 months later..it stops functioning again...and by the time that 7 months were over..I had already purchased a Sanyo camera that works still to this day.

One time, I bought a yr. 2000 Sony DVD player, brand new, for about $350. 2 months of use and it starts skipping all the time...movies would stop in the middle of play and start from the beginning again (no scratches or smudges). I bought cleaners and other things I could use to try and repair it...nata. Eventually I of course had to send it away again...6 months later, they tell me that certain parts needed to fix it, they dont make anymore because they are focusing on their 2001 models...my options? Buy a 2001 model with a discounted price of $200 OR take it to a 3rd party repair shop and pay about $200 to fix it there.

    some warranty.

So now...through all of this, and not to mention the hundreds of Sony Walkmen that had failed in my life...I should buy a PS2? Ive never had a problem with MS products ever...but I should buy a PS2.

Im looking to buy the Xbox..its hardware is great..top notch. Performance is incredible and the games are NOT all PC ports...if you think that..than you need to unlearn. the Xbox is much easier to develop for..half of the technology needed to create an Xbox title is freely avail on the net. Being its easier, the PC developers are looking to port some of their products to consoles because thats where the money is. Why?

Because half of you out there dont buy your pc games..you pirate them. And yes, people most certainly pirate console titles also..but the amount of loss is no where near that of a sole PC game developer, whose games are being pirated at a much higher, less costly rate.

MS has also gotten tons of contracts from those console developers that were once "EXCLUSIVE" to specific consoles...so the Xbox will offer the best of both worlds IMO.

The Xbox is also being developed in a department that is COMPLETEY and totally seperate from the rest of the departments responsible for MS's line of PC software...

So if you are going to state that you hate MS..please offer some actual, honest facts as to why...otherwise..you end up being just another sheep.

  • Think about it, how many of your friends now actually have a next generation console? Only one of mine. And none are planning on getting ANY of the new ones (Xbox, GameCube). No wonder Nintendo isn't focusing on older audience, us fucking older nerds are a small fucking minority, people who are older have fucking lives, and other shit to do other than play videogames all day. Hell, I'm not saying I don't do it, I'm just saying it's only us fucking nerds who will buy something like the Xbox. (Or the majority of the sales, anyway). When I was like 12, EVERYBODY had either a Sega, Nintendo or whatever the hell else was out then. Now, I hardly know anybody, which isn't surprising, since hardly any of my friends are nerds like I am. Anyways. Nintendo knows where the money is. N64's software to hardware ratio kicked PSX's ass, not only because of the piracy involved in PSX, but also the lack of a good game to bad game ratio.

And, the release date for Super Smash Bros: Melee is December 3, 2 weeks after launch. Not very long at all.

  • Which reminds me, today I saw my first "double scan" tv.

It "fakes" 1200 lines or some shit, horizontally.
    It was NOT a HDTV.
It was NOT in 100hz mode.

All it was, was a 68cm Sony tv, but instead of doing every second line, it somehow did both at the same time.

    or something.

all I know is the 68cm was 1100$ .AU or 1400$ or something, then this baby was sitting next to the 68cm, it too was 68cm and looked IDENTICAL in every possible way but was 2700$ (sigh) but I've never in my life seen a picture like this.

    EVER.

I mean jesus it was fucking FANTASTIC - playing a DVD through only Svideo and the image was like a monitor practically.

You know how your 21" monitor (for the owners out there) - when you drop to 640x480 or 320x200 (doom) you see "black lines" in the middle of the screen? well it removed them - fucking jawdroppingly good, for analog.

cant wait for a HDTV version of the same TV.
