Carmack on D3D and OpenGL
by Sander Pilon, Aug 19, 2001 1:12pm PDTI guess even Carmacks get bored on sundays. The man himself posted on slashdot about "the present and the future". My favorite part: D3D is clunky, etc Not really true anymore. MS made large strides with each release, and DX8 can't be called a lousy API anymore. One can argue various points, but they are minor points. Anti-Microsoft forces have a bad habit of focusing on early problems, and not tracking the improvements that have been made in current versions. My rant of five years ago doesn't apply to the world of today. ... All of Nvidia's new features have showed up as OpenGL extensions before they show up as new D3D features.
There's a lot more about graphic cards, DX10 vs OpenGL2, etc. Check it out. And for all of you who missed the public humiliation of some guy who thought he could spread false information about id and Doom - here's the link to Carmack spanking that guy again.

Thats what I have read. Why not support for BOTH OpenGL and D3D?
And IS IT a completely new engine? I am arguing with a guy here, who says its built on q3a tech, but BSP is almost obsolete with the T&L features...
Hope he will allow .dll files in mods so I can coorporate with other stuff in the Windoze API. Like HWND messaging with other apps of mine. Endless possibilities with DLL. Could be anything!
And yeah! Own audio programmer! I am expecting 44KHz... Then it would be playing mp3 in the new pakfiles in MY mod dev at least. can't wait. I would still like that the GDK was in C too though.
