PC Halo in Jeopardy?

by jason bergman, Aug 17, 2001 7:35pm PDT

Yeah, yeah, yeah, someone says this at least once a week, and chances are that it's total BS, but PC.IGN is reporting that the PC port of Halo is no longer a sure thing. They are making this statement based on two things: a scan of the cover artwork from the Xbox version has a "only on Xbox" label on it, and when they called Microsoft, they were told, "Microsoft will evaluate the PC version of Halo after the launch of it on Xbox." Regardless of all of this, keep in mind that Microsoft and Bungie have said time and again that it will appear on PC and Mac after its Xbox debut, regardless of the many reports to the contrary. On a related note, this week's Halo update is up at Rampancy.net, and features the usual bunch of info about the latest additions to the Xbox version of the game.

  • Like this is really a surprise to anyone.

MS needs to take as many PC gamers hostage as possible in order to even compete in the console arena with the weak launch they have slated.

The really sad thing is that the cat's been let out of the bag that the game has been stripped to nearly nothing compared to its original vision. When I applied at Bungie for QA Lead at South River Chicago about a month before they were bought all they talked about was how it was going to make TF2 and Tribes team concepts obsolete.

Now they have an afterthought single player campaign built onto an engine designed to be just the opposite. 4 player split screen multiplayer with no online support, sounds like a blast.

It is just my opinion, but I bet the Bungie team really regrets the loss of creative freedom and the sacrifice of the original vision for what could have been a revolutionary game. Maybe they plan on another venture into the Halo universe later with a game closer to the original design, I have heard whispers that is the case, but this is not what they wanted.
