PC Halo in Jeopardy?
by jason bergman, Aug 17, 2001 7:35pm PDTYeah, yeah, yeah, someone says this at least once a week, and chances are that it's total BS, but PC.IGN is reporting that the PC port of Halo is no longer a sure thing. They are making this statement based on two things: a scan of the cover artwork from the Xbox version has a "only on Xbox" label on it, and when they called Microsoft, they were told, "Microsoft will evaluate the PC version of Halo after the launch of it on Xbox." Regardless of all of this, keep in mind that Microsoft and Bungie have said time and again that it will appear on PC and Mac after its Xbox debut, regardless of the many reports to the contrary. On a related note, this week's Halo update is up at Rampancy.net, and features the usual bunch of info about the latest additions to the Xbox version of the game.

They'll be crawling back to the PC platform fast enough after this tanks on the X-box.
Nah...too many hits to get from a hot story. Sigh.

"The graphics aren't up to snuff!!!!"
"They don't polish the games enough and rush them out the door...and they're buggy!!!"
"Why is it taking so long to make this game!!!!!!"
Figure it out kiddies, but to those goals are mutually exclusive.
But that is not my real rant.
I'm ranting because I see all these people saying that HALO will suck because it is not the "latest, greatest, thing!" and they are talking out of their butt.
How the heck do you know what HALO is like? Because of some old screen shots? Because of some compressed pics we saw on the net? What privy information do you have that we don't have?
The fact is, Bungie has always done good work. They may have been a bit behind in graphics in the pure Macintosh days, but they have always delivered a good game.
IMO, it seems obvious that those that are bashing the game before it has been released are prejudging the game, for whatever reason. And we all know how idiotic that is.

Hello??? Did you see the first footage of HALO??? That shit looked almost fucking real! As time went by it became more cartoonish and not as clear. IMO Microsoft fucked everyone out of a great game, so they can have it exclusive to XBOX. This game should have been on the PC first!

This is David Candland of Bungie clarifying things. This same issue pops up all the time and every single time someone from Bungie squishes it. Regardless of whatever lies IGN posts to get more hits, Halo is still coming out for Mac and PC.
if microsoft had a brain and would realize that DOA3 looks a LOT better to market the xbox around than halo
since when do console gamers know how long halo has been in development??
not only does doa3 have a) amazing graphics but it also has b)proven gameplay on 4 differnt console systems...
now only if they could get soul calibur 2.....

Take into consideration that the title was dumbed down considerably for a console release, and you get a game that's too little too late. Before I crawl into a flame retardant suit and scamper into the corner, I want to say that this is all my opinion.

Lots of game plan ports to other consoles, ship, do poorly and people decide effort is better placed elsewhere. Not saying this will happen with Halo - but unless it's due within a month or so of the XBox launch it really has to be "wait and see", doesn't it?

although i dont trust them 100%, i know what they are are telling us
im more worried about if it DOES come out on PC are they going to be using microsoft's direct play protocal for network games? because if they are anyone on a NAT network connection probably wont be able to play halo online. same thing goes for when the online portion of xbox is launched.... i dont know if they will be using MS direct play.. my guess is probably, and i have NEVER been able to get a game that uses the direct play protocal for net games to work over my DSL with NAT
that would be pretty fucking stupid because then people will be fucking pissed as hell, i know i will, and i know ill find out BEFORE i buy so that they dont get my money if i cant play online

MS needs to take as many PC gamers hostage as possible in order to even compete in the console arena with the weak launch they have slated.
The really sad thing is that the cat's been let out of the bag that the game has been stripped to nearly nothing compared to its original vision. When I applied at Bungie for QA Lead at South River Chicago about a month before they were bought all they talked about was how it was going to make TF2 and Tribes team concepts obsolete.
Now they have an afterthought single player campaign built onto an engine designed to be just the opposite. 4 player split screen multiplayer with no online support, sounds like a blast.
It is just my opinion, but I bet the Bungie team really regrets the loss of creative freedom and the sacrifice of the original vision for what could have been a revolutionary game. Maybe they plan on another venture into the Halo universe later with a game closer to the original design, I have heard whispers that is the case, but this is not what they wanted.

But hopefully they actually mean "you won't find it on Gamecube or PS2", as the article says.
That means console exclusivity, not Console AND PC/Mac exclusivity.
