On Dungeon Siege Delay
by Steve Gibson, Aug 17, 2001 6:38am PDTAs was mentioned yesterday, Dungeon Siege was just announced as officially delayed by the guys at Gas Powered. Of course everyone waiting for the game went fruity and all kinds of theories surfaced. Chris Taylor of GPG decided to come forward on this forum posting to lay it down on what's up and clear things up a bit. (Thanks Ian Smith)
When we started Gas Powered Games we shot for the moon. Ironically we never actually got all the things into the game that we wanted, far from it, but we got the real important stuff in and now we are trying to finish it all, and it's a huge task, much bigger than anything that any one of us could have imagined. Who cares if they ever release it. Delay all you want, sirs. The fact that you can admit you have problems that need time to solve is a good sign.
But once you start selling it ....
Ever notice how imaginations run wild when an indefinite delay is announced? I remember months before Tribes2 went gold, we all agreed that it was just a huge 3DSMAX session churning out screenshot after screenshot. The editors and writers at PC Gamer are all theorizing that TF2 will just be a patch for TFC (that theory was mentioned in two places in the issue after the Max Payne scoop [I forget which issue that was; either April or May 2001]).
The point is that we all become quasi-detectives, piecing together whatever facts we can find, and then eliminating the impossible; however, in this age of computers, the impossible is losing ground, and opens the door to farflung theories.

I think Confucious said that, but I'm not sure.
