QuakeCon is now a few days behind us but I must still chip in and say it was probably the best one. Although of course the event is the must fun if you actually bring your own computer and play games, I still had a good time just walking around, talking to people that I know, meeting new people and checking out the several Activision games on display. Of all those games Jedi Knight 2 was easily the best and I'm really looking forward to it now even more than I did after the E3 showing. As you might have seen on Blues News, the new guy joining us is indeed Jason Bergman who some of you might know as "loonyboi" or some of you might not even know at all (!). Suffice to say, I think it's nearly impossible to find anyone better than Jason. Besides his years of news updating at Blues News, he also worked on his own site Loonygames and writes the ocassional article for Gamespot and such. We are very glad to have him on board. He'll be doing news updates in the afternoon and evening. Movie: Request permission to relieve bladder. IOTD Took this one myself actually at the Mesquite Hampton Inn & Suites. Gotta love that the hotel movie/game ordering system is just a Windows program.

  • My suggestion for karma system:

    Weighted:

Uses with more karma can vote down posts, and their votes are worth more than others. Everyone can vote on a post. There are only two choices, to vote a post UP or DOWN.

Posts would start at 0 but range from -100 to 100. FP/Werd/ER would be exempt, or use a "Regular post/Nukeable" scale.

    100 "Expert in field/Comedy Gold"
    50 "Interesting"
    0 "On-topic"
    -50 "Off-topic Chatter"
    -100 "Nasty/Troll/Lamer"

The titles would go with the scores, so someone could look at the # or the words, depending on what they wanted. Also, all scores would be rounded down toward 0.

    For example:

    An anon/newbie votes a post up.. +5.
So its status is at 5, and its still considered "On topic"
Then a regular sees it and mods it up +20. (Based on his existing karma.)
Once it reaches 50, its considered "Interesting"

Also, take away a portion of a users karma when voting, depending how far the post is from 0.. so if its at -50, and they vote it UP, its going to take alot of karma to move it UP. On the other hand, voting the same direction the post already is, like if they wanted to vote it down, wouldnt take so much karma up. This will keep lamers from knocking down good posts.

How a users GET karma is another problem.. Maybe the karma of their posts for that DAY are added to their karma at MIDNIGHT every night. Mods after that have no effect on the users total karma. This would keep someone from getting alot of karma, spending it modding someone, and end up 'in the hole' if their post gets eventually modded down later that day. Something like a karma economy, if you want to think of it that way.
