by Steve Gibson, Sep 13, 1999 7:18am PDTAzrael pointed out this editorial on PlanetDaikatana comparing the Daikatana DM demo against the Q3Test release. I havent gotten to read it but he says that it is fairly interesting. Give you guys something to read over the morning coffee eh?

But really, the comparison between Daikatana - a game that will have 4 episodes of single player gameplay, plus Deathmatch, with Q3, which is a full-on fragathon with no plot-based SP elements, is really idiotic.
They are different games, and each will appeal to different people. I know some very hardcore players who happened to LIKE Daikatana DM (at least as it was in the demo), and I know some who like the stuff Q3 has shown us so far.
The real comparison to be made is between UT and Q3, because, trust me, UT will give Q3 a run for its money.
it;s a comparison between Daikatana, which
the author HAS played, and Q3 which he hasn\'t
on planet Daikatana !!
it\'s just ludicrous Q3 bashing ... with some
\"well .. this part of Q3 was Okaaaaay\" \'s
in order to make it seem like a balanced
argument
wtf
I would like to play the daikatana demo And get a feel for it, but running at 1 fps on my crappy ati rage card made it hard. I heard it was wackykeen on the physics side, but never got a chance to feel firsthand. I saw some daikatana over qcon, and looks impressive, if the final AI is there. Some nice graphical effects and some brilliant weapons.
As for q3test, I personally dislike the railgun because I never could hit too much with it effectively. Not many \"on the move\" shots for me, but the weapon balance is nice. Rocket bounces, does damage, the spawning with 125 health thing is genious. I just wish the old fashioned BFG was back. Anyone who complained about getting fragged by it just failed to understand the weapon. Easy as hell weapon to dodge.
that would own
You people really should get out more... you\'re making way to big of a deal over such an insignificant review.

/me phears...
Daikatana is currently scheduled for a Summer of \'99 release.
It was originally expected to be released in December of 1997, however with the release of Quake2 and the licensed engine being released in December. Daikatana\'s release date was pushed back to around April, during the winter season. The Daikatana team has been porting over all of the levels, models, and other features that were created during the Quake engine period of the development.
Does anything need to be said about which game will be more sucessful?
\"Release Date:
Since Daikatana will never be released, none of the so called \'nifty\' things I have said in this review will actually matter. As we speak, Daikatana has turned from \'vapor ware\' to \'ass ware\'. Since Q3 will be actually be released, and ppl will play it, I guess i will have to find a another webpage to move my ass to, and stop putting \'things\' in quotes.\"
I wonder how that section got cut from the \"review\" :)
