SW2: Attack of the Clones
by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 06, 2001 11:43am PDTWell the name for Star Wars Episode 2 has just been announced. It'll be Attack of the Clones. Hm..yeah. Can't say I really like that myself. Hopefully at least the movie itself will be better than Episode 1. It'll be out next year. Thanks Odoyle
Ten years after the events of The Phantom Menace, not only has the galaxy undergone significant change, but so have our familiar heroes Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker as they are thrown together again for the first time since the Trade Federation invasion of Naboo. Anakin has grown into the accomplished Jedi apprentice of Obi-Wan, who himself has transitioned from student to teacher. The two Jedi are assigned to protect Padmé whose life is threatened by a faction of political separatists. As relationships form and powerful forces collide, these heroes face choices that will impact not only their own fates, but the destiny of the Republic.

I'd like to see that done right...
At the very least adjusted for inflation. If you wanted to go farther, adjust it by the average price of a theater ticket in its release year, which has certainly gone up faster than the rate of inflation. What did it cost to get into the theater in 1977 when Star Wars came out? A buck-fifty? Someone educate us... we'll do the math and scoff at Titanic (not that it was a bad movie, imo James Cameron ownz)

It is MEGALAME to criticize these movies because of their titles.
1. "... Strikes Back" and "Return Of ..." are just as good as "Attack of ...". Typical for B movies. Probably exactly what Lucas wants. I remember thinking that these titles were lame before ESB and ROTJ came out.
2. Most of you whiners will go see the movie anyway. If you really wouldn't care, you wouldn't post anything.
3. It's generally lame to criticize things that aren't out yet. I remember people whining about Quake a year before it came out because you were only supposed to have a hammer for a weapon.

And the Phantom Menace was not that bad. Sure Jar Jar was annoying, but it was not the horrible film you all make it out to be. Your expectations were simply so damn high, that it was impossible for them to be met.
And also, for the person who asked why Lucas is turning this into a kids movie, Star Wars was always planned by him to be a kids story. A big old fairy tale.

The Phantom Menace is the second highest grossing movie of all time, behind Titanic. Lucas could call this movie "Fuzzy Wuzzy The Womprat Went To Jedi School" and it would be an absolute smash hit.

I'm a Star Wars fan.
"Attack of the Clones" isnt the most spectacular name, but its no big deal to me.
I just cant wait to get my hands on the box-set of all 6 of them on DVD. :)
Once again, I'll be camping out for tickets for this, like Phantom Menace because it was fun, its more than just for the movie, its everything, conversation with friends, taking a day or two off of work (or school) to sit in line, etc.
Its all in fun for me. :)
