are these forums riddled with CS players now? It seems so...too many young kids who think they have a grasp on what games are about...or what makes a good game, all the while praising CS as being one of the best games ever made...

I would love to see all the quakes redone...I happen to be a fan...playing DMC is ok...but too many, again, young kids who grew up with CS being their introduction into DM'ing....camping...constantly. CS requires no skill..or none that I find beneficial to straight DM'ing...

I don't know about you guys, but I think that melding the best of Q1, Q2, and Q3 together into one game would be great. Q1 had a good pace, great weapons, and was atmospheric, but needed a better animation system (I can understand that it was because the target system was a P5-75 running DOS). Q2 had a better animation system and more detailed maps, but was paced too slow and most of the weapons had issues with either damage or timing. Q3 nailed down visual detail and netcode (personally, I didn't start deathmatching until Q3 was out), but its sheer bulk (not to mention the various bugs, tweaks, and hackers along the way) soured the experience a bit.

Put the best of all three together, and see what you get.

Does anyone know what the legal status is regarding the DreamCast Quake that was completed a while ago? I believe it was legal to release the program, but they couldn't release the levels due to the nature of the license. Is there any way around this, for example, do they have the code/binaries released somewhere and you supply the levels?

I don't like the name. Final Quake: BFG just sounds like the name for some nintendo game for kids. If anybody from id is reading this, just drop the BFG part from the name. I also agree with the person that stated BFG shouldnt appear anywhere near the quake name and Quake 1 didn't have it; that was the most important of the quakes, it defined them.

I believe Final Quake is likely to be a new episode (or more likely, episodes) for Quake. What I am hoping for is the chance to finally confront the chief villain of Quake, that is, Quake himself.

I believe Carmack once stated that he wanted to see a user-mod where you could fight Quake... He may just have decided that he wouldn't wait any longer.

If it is this, it shall rock :)

Furthermore:

Imagine Q1/Q2/Q3 all together. The maps would rotate between Q1, Q2 and Q3 maps with the Q1, Q2 and Q3 weapons/physics coming into effect on each of the maps.

You could play a rotation that would require you to know not one, but three dm styles ;)

I'm hoping that one of these unannounced games is a new Quake for the Xbox. I'd buy an Xbox if only for a modifiable shooter game. I'm sure you could make some fairly non-standard mods for a console. A platformer mod, a fighting game mod, and I could probably think of a few more genres that play better with a gamepad.

Nothing in gaming, I repeat NOTHING has made me feel as freaked out as the first time I saw a gun in the middle of a dark room in Doom. There was a spotlight on the gun and that was all you could see. You just knew that if you grabbed that gun you'd be in a world of hurt, but you also knew that you wanted it. Sure enough I grabbed it and the walls came down and a butt load of Imps started hurling fireballls at me. Not to mention the first time I heard the Cyberdemon, I almost wet myself. Doom was also the first multiplayer game I ever played, me and a guy at work had to come in on a Sunday so they could clean the carpets, so we hooked 2 machines together with a serial cable and played co-op for 8 hours straight, long after the carpet guys were gone.

It would be pretty neat if final quake: bfg was basically like all the other quake games expect with somewhat new physics and weapons (but keeping the same basic formula) and then doing something totally new with doom 3. That would be nice couse it would keep all the quakers (myself included) happy. The crappy mac footage definitely looks like they are going for a more realistic look, and with all the realism craze going on with cs my guess and what I am thinking is that they may go for a more realistic game with doom.

but who knows, if the new doom is basically just a quake4, i'll still like it, but I will be letdown. Just gonna have to wait till friday to find out.
