Metroid Prime Stands Alone

Woah.. looks like the new FPS Metroid game from Nintendo is the last game standing over at Retro Studios. Raven Blade, the 3D RPG that was being worked on has been canned entirely according to IGN. 26 employees lost their jobs after a joint decision was made by Nintendo and Retro to dissolve the project. A few "key members" from Raven Blade were sent over to work on Metroid Prime.

The termination of the project means that Retro Studios is now only working on one game -- Metroid. Asked why Raven Blade was killed, Nintendo commented: "It was a business decision and clearly based on the need to focus on Metroid and ensure it's a great game, and also on the resources that would have been needed to finish Raven Blade."

i am all against taking 2d games and making the transition to 3d, but i don't think retro deserves all the negitive doomsday predictions.

i feel as betrayed as a bunch of other gamers, but regardless, get over it. in my opinion, a 3d game on 2d rails would be the best way to handling a 3d metriod, but regardless, the final decision is up to retro and nintendo themselves.

we can only control development by not buying shitty games, so if it smells like dung, and looks like dung...

An FPS Metroid is sacrilige. Its like making Terminator 3 a love story. Imagine a beatifully handdrawn 2D Metroid for the gamecube with a ton of areas (like Brinstar and Norfair) and tones of neat gadgets and co-operative multiplayer. I'd be first in line on launch day. Ill prolly get a Gamecube (that new smash brothers is gonna be awesome) and if Metroid is good ill get it, its just that some games are platformers and Metroid is one of those games.

3D FPS Metroid will fail. I own all the metroids from Metroid I for the NES all the way to the gameboy edition. As a Vet for Metroid, I would never...EVER approve this FPS piece of cram on my system. Hell I bought a dreamcast just for Capcom Vs. Marvel II! That's my only game in the CD-ROM drive!

Does anyone remember the game "Pandemonium" back in the Voodoo1 days? It was a platform game that made good use of 3D graphics, but still played pretty much exactly like a 2D sidescroller. If companies must re-do classic side scrollers in a 3D enviornment, they should do them like that.

Yeah, while there are a great many games that would benefit from a first-person perspective, I don't think many platform scrollers do (Aside from Duke Nukem). What's next, Mario in a first person game?

i think a 3d metroid game could be pulled off. I dont even really think it needs to feel exactly like the other metroid games. there are the other game already out to play you know? why shouldit be the same again? there is room to make a good 3d game with metroid even if its not 'true' to the old metroid. as long as its still a good game
