Ion Dallas Departures
by Steve Gibson, Jul 19, 2001 3:18pm PDTWell it's become official, Ion Storm Dallas is pretty much dissolving. Eidos Interactive sent out a PR (Thanks GSD) making nice nice over the implosion of the company. Here's the bit:
John Romero and Tom Hall have decided to depart ION Storm to pursue other interests. We wish them luck in their future endeavors and thank them for their contribution to Ion Storm over the years, without which we would never have put together such talented teams in both our Austin and Dallas offices. Ion Storm will continue as a wholly owned subsidiary of Eidos and work on the sequels to the awarding winning Thief and Deus Ex titles as well as Deus Ex for the PS2

This should have really been a small story, because we knew this shit was coming from day 1. Though it is now officially over, lets go over some highlights.
1. Over the top penthouse offices.
2. 15 CEO's, 8 CFO's, Script writers, babbling webmasters, and TONS OF BS!!
3. Documentary film team to make a movie about ION game making.
4. People leaving left and right... drama, drama, drama...
5. The absolute longest development time for each game. Easily a worlds record (next to DNF).
6. Pimp out a team member to pose for playboy. If at least one member of the team didn't have tits what would they have done?
7. Spin this whole mess into saying Tom and The Romero left on their own accord.
Funny thing is Tom and Romero will not learn from this disaster, they will continue on and build another Titanic. At least we got a good laugh. Prepare to laugh again....

and I wonder how big of a coincidence that id software hasn't put out a decent deathmatch game since romero left?

John had to wait until today because he couldn't leave without his buddy Superfly.
But he did work on Doom, which earns mucho respect, also soooo many people who meet him in person say he's a great guy, I'd have to believe them if so many say it.
Good luck to him.

...btw I see many people bashing all the .mod developers you create "free" mods developers who spend a lot of their free time trying to create a gaming experience for "you." That's even worse ...these guys are obviously talented.
Constructive criticism would be cool, but hey if it floats your boat writing "This Sux" it's a free country. I myself sometimes smile after reading something negative stuff.
Laslty, ...ummm Romero is Rich.... if he chooses, more than likely he can jump in his ferrari and say later, "concubines." Do you really want him to do that though?
I'm a gamera... .....ummm what in the heck did I write (8ball ...weeps :) ...I'm off to play urban terror. I'll be back reading and smiling at some of the posts ...The Shack Rox's baby!!!

I hope this means they're not changing the company name to Manifesto or whatever the hell it was and are staying as Ion Storm.
