  • woohoo, another round of "clay asks SQL questions!"

i have a cost_center table that has the following rows:

    a costcenter number
a 9 digit hierarchy code (something like ABIFEADEF) cct_hier_pt_cd
columns with the name for each of the letters in the 9 digit hierarchy code (A = Asia, B=Bank, I=International) hir_lvl1_hier_de, hir_lvl2_hier_de, hir_lvl3_hier_de

i need to select unique hir_lvl1_hier_de but i also need the first level of the cct_hier_pt_cd

i can't just do select unique hir_lvl1_hier_de, cct_hier_pt_cd from ced.cost_center because each row has a unique cct_hier_pt_cd and it ends up bringing back everything.

    anybody have an idea?
