New "id Games" @ QuakeCon

id Software's PR company, The Bohle Company sent me along a cute little PR announcing that QuakeCon 2001 will play host to a new id Software game announcement. DOOM has already been announced a while back so you can pretty much count on it being something new. Here's what the PR says:

NEW GAMES FROM ID SOFTWARE. QUAKECON 2001 AUG. 9 - 12 -- MESQUITE, TEXAS

Now given the known id Software franchises lets lookie.. We can assume by knowing that id Software is working on DOOM that it will be a contracted out title using a known id Software IP because it's being called "games from id Software" and where the PR came from. Now we know that Wolfenstein is being done by Gray Matter and DOOM is being done by id Software. So that leaves... update: Keep in mind that it's "id games" being plural. Place your bets. update by Maarten: From Gamespot comes this bit of news.

GameSpot has received word that id Software plans to show more of Doom III at this year's QuakeCon, which is being held from August 9 to August 12 in Mesquite, Texas

Bah! You all wear blinders to what is clear... I would bet money that the announced game is going to be Doom for Gameboy Advance. Why?

-id is busy doing something else, Doom 3.
-'games from id'... the wording there points to it being someone else
-doom gba *has been shown* to have at least some work on it being done
-however, doom gba has never ever been mentioned, and id still pretty chatty after all these years.

Too bad we don't have paul steed to be a mouthy so and so all the time. He could talk vehemently over any subject for a good long time with minor provocation, that was great!

Doom X, Dewm, Doom 3, whatever its going to be called, is going to demoralize most people's PCs. I can't wait to see my girlfriends 1ghz athalon with GeForce 2 crawl along at 25 FPS when it runs the new Doom.

...and I will laugh at her and the like, because all I have is a celeron 300 with a voodoo2. The reason that I will be laughing is that I will not have spent a dime on computer parts for the past 4 years, so a top notch new computer will have to be built just for the new Doom.

Anyone else going to be building a new custom machine, just for the new Doom?

John Carmack and the other guys at id need to get their heads out of their asses and make something NEW. Not a re-hash of an old game (*COUGH* Doom 3 *COUGH*), something new and fresh.

Well now, you guys will just have to come to the event to see what id Software has up their sleeves. Personally, I'm thinking its going to be a John Carmark Personal Rocket Simulator, but I'm just guessing. :)

Don't forget, there is NO charge for spectating. Feel Free to come in and poke around. You will need to register at the front desk for a spectator pass, but its free! We're having all sorts of games like "Pin the Tail on the Tapper" and "Guess what Stigmata had for dinner?".

I can't wait to see all of you (and the new game) at QuakeCon.

And "Id" software is pronounced as in "IDiot": it's a reference to Freud's mind-map of the Id (the seat of instinct, self-preservation, and voracious violence), the Ego (the seat of rational judgment), and the Super-Ego (the seat of moral reasoning and a direct temper for the Id). Id's games reflect the former description as opposed to the latter two. Also, the Id is short for "identity" because Freud primarily believed that the Id comprised most modes of uncivilized, bottom-denominator-type behavior in our early years.

That'll be fifty bucks for the counsel.
