More on Anachronox & Win2k
by Maarten Goldstein, Jun 27, 2001 7:26pm PDTION Storm programmer Brian "Squirrel" Eiserloh updated his .plan file with an update on Anachronox and Windows 2000 compatibility (see story). He's been able to reproduce a crashing bug, and is working on a fix for it which should hopefully find its way into the 1.01 patch. This patch should be out "friday-ish", at this location.
... Note that the patch will weigh in at around 5 MB, so downloading it shouldn't cause anyone undue stress. The patch also fixes several minor issues and improves load times considerably. Note also that several people have written me with various workarounds which have fixed the win2k crash for them. The ones most frequently suggested have been: - disable 3d sound / EAX - change win2k user logins (non-admin, etc)

1. Graphics are "meh"
2. Q2? OMFG!!! that's some damn nice work, I'm impressed, seriously, these graphics are awesome for a Q2 engine game
3. what's the gameplay like? looks kinda like a Final Fantasy game in the Q2 engine, which begs the question: is pointless leveling the main excuse for gameplay?
4. Thank goodness for EB, I'll be grabbing this one soon and returning it if it sucks...which hopefully it won't... :)
2 simple reasons why I won't give this game a chance.
1. NO multiplayer...
2. ION Storm
Thanks!!1

There's a new article out talking about the rumored closing of ION Storm's Dallas office by Eidos if Anachronox is not a big success. This article features a quote from Eidos CEO Mike McGarvey:
We've made no public statement about Dallas yet, but the truth is a lot of money went in and not much came out. I'm sure those guys will be making games in the future, but whether or not it's with us remains to be seen.
PlanetDaikatana extends best wishes to the developers who worked long hours on ION Storm's games, and we hope that this rumor turns out to be false.
