I did mention that (briefly) at the end of the article - developers just don't seem to make good managers most of the time, and it's hard to focus on designing your own game when you're also responsible for the running of the whole company, particularly if it's a big one like the ones we were talking about.

The reason deus ex was so good was because it was so ambitious. He seem to contradict himself there.
