TombRaider Today

Today marks a glorious day in entertainment. Once again a videogame has bridged the gap to Hollywood. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is showing in theatres across the US today. My fiancée who is not familiar with the TombRaider games at all liked the previews and wants to see the movie. I imagine the concept of a female lead action hero is appealing. Anyone else going to see it today? Should be interesting to watch how people are rating the movie. Should also be entertaining to see how heavily the movie gets slammed. The more hype a movie gets before release the more impassioned people are to attack it. Human nature at its finest. I think going to a movie with a preconceived notion is probably one of the worst things you can do to ruin an experience. It's kind of hard to avoid at times and is often the fault of the marketers sure... Just show up to the theatre and hope to be entertained. There is more than one formula for a good movie.

  • Well, happily enough, I got in for free (Girlfriend was actually working as a Lara Croft lookalike at the local 20-plex, so free tickets). I can't say that it was the best movie ever, but I also can't say it was the worst. Looked upon like a medium budget action flick, it was decent. The fight in the atrium with the commandos was excellent, the CG fight with the robot was goofy but still entertaining, and the fight with the rock guards, while ludicrous, was at least still enjoyable (try to look BEYOND the bad CG). Really, you can look either way on this one... I think it more depends on if you wanted to enjoy it or not. The people that went in expecting something bad found plenty of things bad, and those that went in hoping to enjoy it very well may have. While I agree that the plot itself was ass, the action sequences (and the one naked b00bie shot) were what defined the movie.

That, and Lara running like mad to get out of the collapsing ice cave at the end.. *drool*
And I LIKED the scene where Lara walked out of the time storm to reverse the thrown knife. Sure, the physics on that would be ALL WRONG, but the scene's setup was just cool.
