by Steve Gibson, Jun 12, 2001 7:06am PDTWell we had the news of the cheats being released, the Busted guys posting their justification for them, and now here's some of the consequences. CS leagues are going invite only with sponsorship programs. Here's the concept:
All teams that are admitted into the two divisions (one standard, one with all custom maps) will have to be sponsored by two other clans, and if a player is caught cheating both the offending clan and its sponsors will be removed from the league.Also, here's an interview with Tony Ray from PunkBuster. The most popular anti-cheat program for Counter-Strike. It's pretty lengthy stuff although it's curious that Tony mentions it takes him 10minutes to write a catch for the current hack out there but it's been a known issue for weeks.

And that, peeps, describes perfectly how I feel about cheaters.
As for the invite-only scheme, I think it could point toward where online gaming is headed. As cheat detection improves and gamers tire of lamers, we should see the industry and affiliated servers be more selective about who gets to play. For chrissakes, put it in the EULA: If you cheat online and thereby deprive others of their fair use of the game, you lose the license to play the game. Perfectly legal under contract law.
But we will have to see if developers want to do more than pay lip service to fighting cheating.

Personally, I don't use PunkBuster. It slows down my speed and is useless to me since I don't cheat. And since Valve isn't doing jack shit about cheaters, I figure the only surefire way to scare them off is by banning them permanently.
Hehe, last night I saw that the ole lagout your team skin hack cheat thinger is back. Oh well I got to kill about 5 lagged out fools each time it happened, heh :)
If I play in the NBA and cheat somehow, dont you think i'll be fined? Or the PGA? Or any major sporting situation?
Why the hell should e-sports be different? If you're going to pay the winners, FINE THE CHEATERS.
What do you get out of it? It doesn't count for anything and in the end you might as well play minesweeper, considering how challanging it is.

It will be fucking funny seeing at least 12 clans getting the boot because of cheat. I bet some of them are so stupid they don't even know they are cheating. They just use a file offered by ther clan leader and agree "yeah this file makes the game easier, thanks!"

He never actually said "the current hack," he said for cheats in general. the "current hack" is a lot different than most other cheats if i recall, and can't be caught so easily, since it was written specifically to circumvent things like punkbuster
