MS Smart Tags

Just to clear things up. In IE the smart tags in a page are underlined with a purple line. For example, Intel is mentioned in text somewhere on the shack. If the mouse hovers over "intel" for a minute a small "i" pops up which opens a menu for company info, stock quotes etc. They do NOT send you to microsoft sites unless you choose so. They are basically another link in a page. In summary its no big deal! And i agree totally with #10

people might click a MS endorsed link when browsing a site, so you leave that site to continue to browse on a MS one.

This really makes me wanna have Windows XP! And I am 100 % convinced it will give me experience points in Diablo II because the name tells me so. Ohh, I want to have Bill Gates's yellow pants!

And yet ANOTHER reason to avoid Windows XP like the plague.

Current reasons:
-Online registration required
-Unix sockets implementation amounts to DDoS bait / script kiddie fodder
-An even more bloated GUI
-MS Smart Tags taking your browser hostage

People should really reserve judgement about these things until they actually use them. Particularly the press who writes articles about them on places like CNet.

Smart Tags do not necessarily send you to MS sites, and they don't mysteriously take you away from the site you're browsing to the same thing on an MS site. It's also reserved to IE6, not implicit throughout the OS.

WindowsXP does not require online registration. It requires ACTIVATION, which does not require you to send your name, email address, physical address, phone number, or any of the other personal info usually involved in registration.

Ultimately, if you don't like what MS is doing, don't buy it. The one and only way to get a company to listen to you is with your wallet. If you give them the money and use their products, you can bitch all you want but it won't change anything--they've already got you. =) But base your opinions on hands-on use or accurate facts, not the rantings of a "jump on everything MS does" press.
