3DPower Rampage?
by Steve Gibson, Jun 07, 2001 6:57am PDTMany of you may recall a little while back we revealed (and had confirmed) that the 3dfx next-gen Rampage card was actually completed just a day or so before the company sold out to NVidia. The Rampage never saw the light of day. We did manage to smuggle out these pictures of it though. Well guess what, a bunch of ex-3dfx employees have been secretely working on a new company called 3DPower headed up by Scott Sellers. According to theinq they are "on the verge" of releasing a card based on that tech under the new company. Thanks Tissen
3DPower has joined with Absolute Multimedia, formerly a manufacturer of Nvidia based cards. The word is that Absolute won't be the exclusive manufacturer of the 3DPower chip, with many familiar names producing cards based on the chipupdate Jack - It turned out to be bullshit.

We don't have to rely on ATI for competition anymore.
(Though, I will say, the newer Radeon cards are actually pretty damned good)

Update We've had an email from Scott Sellers this afternoon, and he says that there may be a new company of this name, but the rumours are just rumours, and he is personally nothing to do with it. Thanks Scott. MM. 17.40 BST

nVidia bought out 3dfx's technology. They want to use that technology to make a competing graphic board. Gee... they're asking for a lawsuit.

Do we think Nvidia is gonna let someone else use thier tech after that someone else filed a
patent lawsuit against them? I don't know, maybe its legit, and maybe Sellers is just trying to keep his name in the papers until he lands a job.

Talk about risky. I've got mixed feelings about this. Happy in general - for various reasons. But what about the patents? I just hope a flurry of lawsuits doesn't kill this.
We'll see what happens. I just talked myself out of a GF3. The Radeon2, Kyro3, the possibility of a new Matrox card and now this. My Radeon 32DDR is fine in my system for now.
