What's life without a few good teasers? Late tonight we'll bring you guys an exclusive announcement from Valve along with information and screenshots of a new Mod they plan to release very soon. The announcement and information will be going online late tonight (near midnight PST) and I am absolutely certain it will cause quite a stir around here. For the people who like to speculate, this is not about TeamFortress2, Half-Life 2, or Counter-Strike. I got gimped by GSI of all places. Rock!

  • Valve:
We load up the game, a nice splash screen with scary monsters and super cool heroes. We are presented with the foyer, like Battle.net or some other game organising screen. You see the connected players, games in progress. You create a new game, 6 players. You assign yourself as the commander. Your four friends join, plus some pleb, you kick him out and your other friend joins. As commander you have access to your load/save games, and you inform everyone you are loading up level2. You say, ‘we are playing on hard’. One player murmurs something about needing more money, equipment. Someone else says ‘you should get some single player time in then.’ Regardless, you start the game.

The game loads and syncs up. The six of you are now standing in level2’s ‘shop’, like Fallouts weapons/health shops. You pool your cash and get some armour, guns and ammo. Two players have backpacks and they get loaded up. They will move slower than everyone else, but they can drop weapons, health, and armour with simple keystrokes. Everyone gets a few health packs and some ammo. An argument breaks out over who will carry the two shotguns, you step in and all players argue over what they want to use. The player with the most armour drops the shotty and pics up the submachine gun. Problem solved. You look at your troops, everyone seems decked out ok. You all move into the launch room and the doors close behind you and the main door opens into the level. This mission is a general sweep and clean, clear out any hostiles so the rest of the army can set up base. You all walk slowly down a corridor and into an open room. Bits of dead marines are scattered about the place, one of your friends moves over to search the body and he is suddenly hit from the side, he sprawls over the floor and everyone panics, scanning about to see where that shot came from, pulling back to the wall. Your wounded team-mate is gurgling and screaming ‘i’m all busted up’. He probably cant see properly, and wont be able to heal himself. ‘hang on’ you call out. Another team-mate moves out to drag the wounded back into the shadows. Another shot, but it misses, he turns and starts firing across the gap, into the darkness. You rush out and join him, both firing like mad as the three others drag/resuscitate the wounded back to relative safety. The mystery shooter has gone quiet, another marine moves up to assist you, and the three of you move slowly across the gap. A huge shape drops from the ceiling spiking your teammate, and shaking him about. He starts shooting all over the place, and the team starts hosing the new intruder… The marine explodes as round after round impact his loaded backpack. You get thrown across the ground, vision blurred, armour down to 50, luckily it was high enough to absorb all the damage, no health gone. You get up, and survey the scene. Dead marine, and what’s left of the intruder looks interesting, you do a search and grab some of the carapace, it might make good armour. You chuckle, as the dead marine types in ‘reload faggots’. He is probably in observer mode, watching each player from 3rd person view.

You reload, back to the shop on level2. Sometimes there is only one player remaining, rushing to get to the end of the level, and the whole team is egging him on. Trying to get into the next save pointÂ… but not today. You reload, and buy some equipment, and this time, you all rush out into the room, firing like maniacs.

    rad.
