It sorta kinda existed in Quake 1, but the lack of QuakeWorld support pretty much made it a cult thing.
Then it was supposed to come out for Quake 2, with sound effects by some kid who was like Lowtax but without all the funny parts. That got scrapped for the Quake 3 engine.
And now here's Quake 3, and there's files out, but lo and behold, their just making an SDK and not bringing the full thing? Er... What? Will there ever be a QuakeRally mod I'll ever get to play?

That's the same thing I heard when I was on the CS team, heh. I learned CS was bought out by Valve and going retail...when I read the topic on the Shack - lol. But yeah, the rest of your post convinced me at least that you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, Q3R looks like a top-notch mod. I suggest you guys put together a desktop version of the shack car though, would be great promotion, especially here :D

Then it became point releases then betas.
Now it's info about the next release of the next beta...

I got the same cold shoulder from the main coder of another high profile q3 mod. Well, not exactly the same. He replied to me, but with minimilistic, 10 minute delayed responses, and he seemed incredibly labored to say absolutely anything to me. He let out a long sigh after only 3 or 4 messages over the course of 2 days, when I asked him the url for a messageboard he told me to go to. (I asked him for the icq #'s of the other team members, and he told me if I wanted them to go check the messageboard, because apparently he couldn't be bothered to just send me contacts)
On the other hand, the HL community is entirely different. Seems every mod team I contacted was very responsive and enthusiastic about their project. The vibe was just totally different with HL guys than it was with Q3.
