SoF2 Diary
by Steve Gibson, May 24, 2001 6:34am PDTSoldier of Fortune2 was announced a little while ago and shown off at E3 just the other week and got some pretty positive responses. Zachary Quarles of Raven Software has written up a pretty lengthy developer diary about his involvement with the game and where it has gone so far.
So I'm pounding ceramic tiles and drywall in my office to get the perfect bullet into concrete sound when I bash the holy-crud out of my finger. Sweet-merciful-crap. [...] . I think we had a pretty respectable show at E3 this year but I have nothing to base that off of, it just seemed that many people were pretty supportive of the product and that makes me so happy that it makes me have to pee.

Raven is using a real mercenary for gameplay consultation; why can't game developers unite with gunmakers or the military to sample better sounds?

The Q3A engine wasn't made for the sort of action that the original SoF displayed.
Personally, I don't really care about that; as long as they make a game that's just as fun as the original, I'll be happy, but I think they should have modified the original engine and used it instead of the Q3A one. I just don't think it's gonna have the "feel" of SoF.
Just my $.02 :)
