DDR Market Trouble?
by Steve Gibson, May 23, 2001 4:24pm PDTThe guys at OCWorkbench have some interesting news from abroad. A few major motherboard manufacturers seem to be slowing down or discontinuing their work on DDR motherboards. Doh! Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI being the big ones. Apparently Intel & Rambus are gaining a bit of ground... Thanks surbio
Intel is slashing pricing of Pentium 4, and this will definitely increase the sales of P4. DDR and P4 are moving in opposite directions. [...] In addition, boards coupled with DDR+P3 performance is only 10% faster than the SDRAM+P3 platform. Thus ASUS,GIGABYTE,MSI R&D will stop their development of DDR boards. My last check of DDR memory prices had the prices WAY down...

I think OCworkbench pulled this story out of their ass or something. Maybe their is a slow down of Intel/DDR based boards (based on what Intel/Rambus tells you) but not AMD/DDR, they are selling like hotcakes. New DDR boards coming out almost daily, just check any of the good hardware sites.

Which is alright, I guess, as that means I'm close to the release date of playing Duke4 on my P4 Whatever Is The Big Thing Then-mhz. :-P
EAT ASS RAMBUS!
I'm building a computer late this summer...maybe I'll push the date up? Wanted to wait till July or August, right before the highly anticipated Fall games. I guess, though, that if my p2 400 can last me this long, my new machine can take on games released 6 months later...
